Nov 2, 2015 3:28 AM in response to Pointebasicby csac3405,Iphone 4s - iOS 9.1:
Rear camera tries one focus but remains black. All buttons are active.
WhenI switch to the rear camera, I get the ⚠️ icon on the top left part of the screen. When I click on it, it tells me that the flash is disabled & that my iPhone needs to cool down before using the flash. I had no problems whatsoever until I did the update.
Any restarts, reboots, deleting of new apps, power saving on/off did not work

Nov 2, 2015 9:59 AM in response to Pointebasicby SteveIsDead,iPhone 5S with March 2016 left on the contract.
So this flaw is now into it's third month of not being acknowledged or fixed by Apple?
No wonder they're loosing market share to Android and Windows phones. I've been a die hard iPhone fan since the first one came out; but I need the camera more than I need a broken Apple product.
Hoping for a fix soon!!!!!!!! -
Nov 2, 2015 1:56 PM in response to SteveIsDeadby Purjed,I did the squeeze on the front and back of the camera and it is working again. Of note: My "flashlight" never stopped working the rest of the symptoms were similar.

Nov 4, 2015 3:12 AM in response to Pointebasicby Polly_h,I have iPhone 5 and I've experienced exactly the same 'hardware' issue. I am writing to share my experience an explain how i manage to fix it. Thank everyone for the good explanations. My camera stopped working - black screen, in an hour the flash stopped working too, showing it's overheated and needs to cool down.
What i did:
1. Restarting several times - no effect.
2. Recovery mode then back up with iTunes - no effect.
3. Toggling low power mode then restart - no effect.
4. Switching front and back camera for like 20-30 times then turn the phone off for 15 mins and then turned it on again.
Now my camera is working again, the flashlight too.

Nov 7, 2015 12:37 PM in response to Nikkon78by Jon Reiss,This my first time commenting on an Apple forum. I'm extremely disapointed with Apple lately. They used to be a company I strongly beleived in and supported because of my experiences with they way they used to handle these types of sitautions. I feel like Apple used to really go out if it's way to help people and keep people using its products. That feeling is now gone.
Suffice to say, same problem, but slightly different. Neither my front or back camera is working after upgrading to IOS 9.
But wait, here's where it gets weird. The camera doesn't work for stills, but it does work for video. It does work for pano as well. Instagram does not work. However, I do some dog walking and there's an option to take photo's on that app and still photo's DO work on there. I simply wish I could downgrade to IOS because frankly nothing about 9 appears beneficial and I strongly disagree the new layout for music and podcasts (which was already pretty awful.)
There's may be 100 people commenting, but I'd guess less than 10% of the people with this problem are going to comment.

Nov 7, 2015 2:26 PM in response to Polly_hby a-i-ko,Received the same overheating issue, iPhone 5S. At the moment trying Polly_h steps, hope it will restore camera functionality. Anyway, it's very sad if Apple official guys say that it's hardware issue. Hope this thread will draw Apple attention to this problem.
