Q: Podcast app crashing in iOS 9

I just installed iOS 9 on my iPhone 6. When opening the podcast app I get a white screen, "Updating Library" and then it crashes after about 15 seconds. Anyone else experiencing this?

I've quit the app.

Restarted the phone.

Tried putting phone in airplane mode and opening the app.

Same result each time.

Help!

iPhone 6, iOS 9

Does anybody have a reliable way to revert back to ios 8.4.1?   Every procedure I've found doesn't work.

This is a blunder on Apple's part of epic proportions.  You don't have that many devices Apple, quality control much?  You control every step in the supply chain from design to finished product, both hardware and software, yet you still release an OS with major show-stopping bugs. I don't think they could have screwed up more if they designed it this way.

Never mind that the new interface is clunky, awkward, and ugly.  If it ain't broke don't fix it

I just did the full erase of Iphone . Tried the podcasts app and it worked. then did a restore from backup on mac. Podcast app crashed again.

This time i will try the same thing but will do a restore from iCloud.

I am hoping the cloud backup will not install whatever is interfering with the podcasts app.

The number of subscribed podcasts cannot be the issue . If it was the issue then the podcasts app would not work after doing an erase of all content and settings

Same issue on my iPhone 6

I have spent many hours on the phone with 2 levels off Apple techs so far.

They tried many things like restoring the phone.

    No changes so far.

There was an update IOS9 last night.

    That did not solve it.

I reset the whole phone right after that.

    Still not solving.

My iPad Air 2 podcast app works fine though.

One fix so far is to use the old iPod Classic and listen to the podcasts the old fashion way.

Add me to the list of unhappy podcast listeners. I just upgraded my 5S to iOS 9.0.1 and the Podcasts app crashes when it does the library update. As a podcaster, this is extremely frustrating since nearly half of my downloads come from the app. No wonder my stats tanked this week!

Resetting my phone is not an option. I'll use Overcast until Apple fixes this.

Here's a crazy idea Apple.... test everything out before you release it, what do you think?

"Apple has lost huge credibility and it is shocking that they won't own up to this problem and give at least an ETA for a fix."

Not really shocking to me as they refused to acknowledge the graphic card failures on the 2011 Macbook Pro for three years or so until the flood of complaints, petitions, and websites devoted to complaining about the malfunction built up enough momentum to get talked about in multiple news stories.  Then they finally caved and fixed these computers.  Mine was sitting unused for a year because it would not boot due to this.  Now I have a computer again, but it took them three years to acknowledge what was going on and fix it.

They did test it with the beta.

I reported the bug via the beta program feedback app to say that the update had broken Podcasts.

They still released it, so I'm guessing not enough people complained during the beta for them to take notice.

Same thing here, I'm so ******. I need my podcasts and am getting fed up with Apple. Seems like they're going down hill lately.

    unacceptable.

Ditto, jpa1952. I cannot backup my iPhone after the iOS 9 or 9.0.1 update. No backups to iCloud, and I can’t force a backup to my MacBook using iTunes. The plot thickens.

I found a fix for the iCloud backup issue.  In the settings for iCloud backup I turned off backup for podcasts and after that was able to get a manual backup to run to completion.  Of course one never knows if a backup was truly successful until one tries to restore from it but I think at this point I will leave well enough alone.

Interesting. I had already done that, too, but it did not solve my backup issues. Maybe I’ll try again.
