Q: Podcast app crashing in iOS 9

I just installed iOS 9 on my iPhone 6. When opening the podcast app I get a white screen, "Updating Library" and then it crashes after about 15 seconds. Anyone else experiencing this?

I've quit the app.

Restarted the phone.

Tried putting phone in airplane mode and opening the app.

Same result each time.

Help!

Well, if anyone's keeping score, this is also happening with my iPod Touch, 5th generation.  When I try to open the podcast app, same thing:  I get the "loading library" message then eventually it crashes.  I really DON:T want to erase all my content and settings, but will if I have to.  I LIVE for my pods!!!!!

Incidentally, I subscribe to about 20 podcasts, and follow a dozen or so more.

I downloaded the update on my iPod touch first, and when I discovered this problem I warned the rest of my family to beware of updating their iPhones. I was about to get my new iPhone 6S (upgrading from a 5), so I wasn't going to bother with my iPhone anyway. The podcast app works fine on my new phone.

The iPod touch app is still broken.  I suggest downloading the Downcast app and migrating to that for your podcasts.  It's a better player anyway, I think, as there are more speed levels (I like 1.25), and I've found nearly all my podcasts are accessible through Downcast.

IPhone fail, and glad that I did not update my iPad. Now I am using my iPad more.

Last time that I will EVER rush to update iOS. From now on I will wait for at least a couple weeks while others share their experiences.

And we are suppose to trust Apple with cars one day?

And now I keep getting a prompt to Install iOS 9.0.1.

    Options: Install Now, Later, Details

Need new Options: Install Now, Later, Quit bugging me until you fix the Podcast App, Details

The suggestion to use Downcast app while this problem is outstanding was helpful to me.  The Podcast app is still crashing as of this writing on iOS9.01 on my iPhone 6+

Just wanted to chime in to say I also have this problem.  Extremely frustrating that this bug was in a live release.

This worked for a friend and I tried it and it also worked for me. First, if you are syncing your podcasts, turn off syncing on that device (laptop/desktop). If you are not syncing with another device, make a list of your podcasts/episodes (yep, it’s a pain, so if you are worried about losing anything, turn back here). Now delete all the podcasts on your device so the app is completely empty. After you have done that, look them up on your device using the Podcast app and add them back in directly from the podcast app, making sure you select “subscribe” on each podcast. Power your device off and then power it back on. Now you can sync with your device. Don’t know why this worked or if it will work for you - good luck.

I'm unclear, for it seems you're using the term "device" for both the Mac and the iOS. Can you clarify?

I cannot do the step you describe "look them up on your device using the Podcast app and add them back in," because the Podcast app crashes before anything can be done inside of it.  I have deleted all of my podcast subscriptions and podcast episodes from iTunes as well as unsynced podcasts between iTunes and iOS.  None of that stops the Podcasts app from showing "Updating Library" and crashing for me whenever I attempt to open the app.

Sorry. By device, I'm referring to iOS. My referring to anything running OS X was my mistake.
