Q: Podcast app crashing in iOS 9

I just installed iOS 9 on my iPhone 6. When opening the podcast app I get a white screen, "Updating Library" and then it crashes after about 15 seconds. Anyone else experiencing this?

I've quit the app.

Restarted the phone.

Tried putting phone in airplane mode and opening the app.

Same result each time.

Help!

This does not work for me unfortunately. I can open the app now w 9.02 but it crashes after 15 sec. This is SO annoying. You guys at Apple have to fix this NOW.

Btw. Have started using Overcast and it's actually a really nice and simple app, if someone has the same issue.

So after the latest iOS 9 update (9.0.2), despite Apple's saying they resolved some Podcast app issues, the application was still kicking me out. Troubleshooting seemed to indicate to me that doing a hard restart (double-tapping the home button and exiting out of the apps, then holding the power button and home button until I see the Apple symbol again) helped occasionally, but that when it came to playing podcasts, turning off WiFi was the most helpful. But I wanted to download new episodes of some of my podcasts, and I couldn't very well do that without WiFi. So I kept trying. It seemed like I could enter the app without getting kicked out when the WiFi was off, so I tried turning of WiFi, entering the app, canceling all current downloads, then swiping up from the bottom of the screen and turning the WiFi back on. It didn't kick me out, and I was able to download new episodes without any trouble. I had been trying the hard restart over and over again, and it didn't seem to be doing anything, but it may have. So that's what I would recommend:
    1. Hard restart
    2. Turn off the WiFi option
    3. Start the app.

    4. Try listening to something. If it doesn't kick you out, great.
If you want to download new episodes, try turning off the WiFi, getting into the app, canceling any downloads available, then turning WiFi back on and trying to download something.

They just released the ios 9.0.2, which says they've improved the podcast stability, so everyone try the update that was released today and see how it works for you.

mine never worked with WIFI off anyway.... i mostly listened when i drive... so i tried it on wifi and it crashed the same way. Im installing the new update now to see how it goes.... if not, then... another point for Stitcher and the other apps! lol

They honestly should make the itunes podcast app something you can DELETE and REINSTALL... that usually fixes crap like this with other apps.

Fixed my issue with the podcast.  Has anyone had issues with Notes not syncing between devices?

I found that if you put the iPhone in low power mode, podcast app works fine.  That is work around I am using until fix is created.

Someone mentioned, but i cant find it, that their NOTES app wasnt syncing with their mac... and this happens to me as well because I have ios9 on my phone, but Yosemite on my mac... in order for them to sync properly, due to the NEW upgrades to the notes apps, we need EL CAPITAN on the macs.

I use Adobe Audition for audio production and there is a HOLD UP recommendation of upgrading to EL CAPITAN, so I am holding off on that.

    Hope this helps!!!

So just upgrade your mac to EL CAP and it should work fine then.

Hi.  I am so darned frustrated with the situ regarding the podcast app constantly crashing as this is what I use my ipad for the most, & now it is utterly useless to me.  Especially as  I smashed my old ipad screen whilst in US - could not get an appointment with Genius Bar whilst in US, so was forced to purchase brand new ipad, with new iOS (my old ipad was fine on the old operating system), as i couldn't face a 12 hour flight home without my lovely podcasts.  Of course, they do not work with the new OS - grrrrr!   Apple support - Why are you ignoring us?  Get this sorted, and quick.  I've tried every fix mentioned and have emailed apple constantly, but they are not addressing the problem.

I have been having the same problems on my IPod Touch after installing the update.  Weird thing is my IPod is about a year older than the one my DH has and I got his podcasts to play after the install of the OS 9 update, but mine will NOT. Mine keeps crashing.  Tried the new release and still crashes. Very afraid to install the later releases on my DH's device for fear it will go all to pieces.  Not willing to jump thru hoops to use the app.  Now using Overcast.  BAD, BAD APPLE!!

Their silence speaks volumes.  I've lost all faith in Apple at this point.

It turns out my app was crashing for me because the data or files were screwed up for one of my podcasts. Here's what I saw:

    • In iTunes, one podcast had 4 episodes, but in the app, it only showed 1 episode
    • In the app, I deleted that podcast, and it immediately came back with 3 episodes (the 3 which were missing before, I assume).

After this, all the crashing stopped.

If I were to do this again, I would try:

    • connect to iTunes
    • turn off podcast syncing in iTunes (to remove all the podcast files from my phone)
    • re-enable podcast syncing (to copy all the files back)

Maybe asking iTunes to copy all the files over into an empty phone would have fixed it before I deleted half my podcasts.
