Sep 18, 2015 3:57 PM in response to alexanderfrommooresvilleby 4cdspin,I too now have a brick that was once a perfectly functioning iPad 2. I tried the remedy noted above, however, when I plug in the iPad to restore, iTunes states to turn off "find my iPad...." on the iPad. Are you kidding me? Stuck at the white screen of death "slide to upgrade" unresponsive. Multiple reboots, nothing.

Sep 18, 2015 5:53 PM in response to the2mikesby the2mikes,OK - I managed to get the iPad into the recovery mode. The recovery downloaded the update, went through the motions and then ended up at the same place. "> slide to upgrade" - It's not responsive to anything.

Sep 18, 2015 9:49 PM in response to alexanderfrommooresvilleby Harwood64,I have the same problem with iPad 2. Attempted to update, restore, and force restart several different ways/times. I get to the point where iTunes starts downloading to the iPad but reports a communication problem. I have used 2 different cables, so a cable problem is not likely.
The iPad screen shows an update bar momentarily that goes gray until the error message (9) comes up and the connect to iTunes is again displayed on the iPad. Also notice that the serial number of the iPad is displayed at first, but changes to N/A when the update attempt starts. iTunes shows 2 iPads connected sometimes.
I hope Apple produces some guidance soon!

Sep 18, 2015 10:17 PM in response to alexanderfrommooresvilleby kne99,My son has tried to upgrade his iPad (without permission) and it's now stuck on the white screen with the 'slide to upgrade' bar. When we do this, it attempts to do something but then kicks us out back to the white screen. Have done the 2 finger reset, comes up with the black screen and white apple logo, but then goes back to the white screen. When I open iTunes, it asks if I want the computer to access the iPad (normal computer that we use) but then asks for me to respond on the iPad…. Help please! What's next?

Sep 18, 2015 10:37 PM in response to gail from maineby kne99,Thank you. Have tried this several times, iTunes isn't recognising the iPad

Sep 18, 2015 10:39 PM in response to kne99by gail from maine,OK, different problem:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Mac OS X
Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
Pick your poison! Once you get past that part, you probably will then need to follow the other link's instructions.
Best of luck,
GB

Sep 18, 2015 10:49 PM in response to alexanderfrommooresvilleby joww,Try this, worked well with my iPad2:
iPad stuck in infinite reboot loop after iOS9 update
You first have to manually "downgrade" your iPad from the broken iOS9 update to iOS 8.4.1. This brings your iPad back to life. Afterwards you can upgrade to iOS 9.

Sep 19, 2015 12:18 AM in response to corndog2558by zenepay,Please lead me to fix this issue:
I got IPad2 and upgraded over Air to iOS9. Then fail cannot slide to upgrade.
I have read here found need to reboot and plug to iTune to restore.
However my issue is, no backup.
How I can fix this issue?
When connect to iTune it askes me to respond to on iPad while I cannot slide the screen. So, I could not do anything.
Is there any way to fix?
Really got bad impression to this version.
