Q: ipad 2 upgrade to iOS9 failed and destroyed my iPad

So I got the alert from iTunes to upgrade my ipad2 to the new IOS9 today. plugged in the iPad to my Macbook, and now my iPad no longer works nor will restore. In fact it won't even respond after its screen request to connect to itunes. So Now this upgrade appears to have been responsible for killing my iPad that was working just fine prior.. How do I fix this or how is Apple going to fix what they did to my iPad?

    you can try to restore. but it did not work for me. my ONLY  option is to wait. I tried for 6 hours - no joy. Let's hope it is soon.

    I did the upgrade to ios9 on my ipad 2...FYI don't do it unless your computer is supported  by a new update to windows. Since the upgrade I cannot sync my ipad or now iphone 6 because there is no upgrade from windows.. I made appt at the Apple Store in Farmington Station in Farmington Utah. Was not impressed with service or answers. All Apple wants me to do is buy an upgrade for windows so it will support my IPad/IPhone/IPod. WhichI cannot afford to do.  I am very upset with Apple on this upgrade because you didn't bother telling your customers that it is not compatible with operating systems on your own computer that you back up.HEY APPLE.....what happened to loyalty to your customers...

    Oh, so sorry. I have a 2012 Mac and updated iTunes. At least your devices are up and running. You can have up to five computers with iTunes authorized to your Apple ID (I think, check Apple's site for details). Maybe you have another computer with an updated system that can install iTunes and you can sync them that way. Meantime, perhaps you can back to the cloud until then. Somewhere there is a published list of supported Windows versions.

    Tried this multiple times and still get the same issue - cannot get past the 'plug into iTunes' message!

    Hi There,

    I did it today. I restored it like a new one using the last version of iTunes 12.3. I lost all my data but now it is working again. I had to set up again as a new Ipad 2. The most strange thing is that the version of my iPad now is iOS 9.

    Regards

    It took a lot of trial and error, but I was ultimately able to fix this.  Here's how:

    -Follow the instructions on this web page to put the iPad into recovery mode: If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

    -When given the option in iTunes, chose "set up as new iPad" (do not choose "restore from backup" - this didn't work for me).

    When this process was finished, I had iOS9 on my iPad with none of my apps or data.  From within iTunes, you then have to specify what apps and data you want to sync with the iPad.  Yes, you're starting from scratch, but at least you have a functional device.

    Thank you so much! This finally worked, I tried to restore with iTunes and iCloud so many times but it just wouldn't work.

    I had issues upgrading and my iPad 2 from 4.3.3 to iOS9 and it got stuck in recovery mode (connect to iTunes logos with the usb).  I tried every reboot, restart, change cables, change computers, etc. suggestion and nothing would get it out of the recovery mode.  I would connect to iTunes and click upgrade and/or restore and every time I would get an error in iTunes saying error code 9.  I finally found this tool and it was able to get my iPad 'unstuck' in recovery mode.  Either search the web for REIBOOT or go to copy this and remove the spaces "w w w . tenorshare . c o m /products/reiboot. h t m l"

    Still no luck with the upgrade though.

    If you have an issue, please be so kind as to spell it out. This thread is 5 pages long, so to try to figure out which of the various reported problems you are having is just too time-consuming. If you list your issues, and provide information about any troubleshooting you have done, then we may be able to help.

    Cheers,

    Updated ipad Gen2 to iOS9.

    *  received slide to upgrade issue - (can't slide)  Did the two finger reboot no less then eleventy MILLION times.

    *  attached ipad Gen2 to computer with itunes - was able to make a back up, but not able to restore.

         *  was required to turn off 'locate ipad app'

         *  was unsuccessful with command, as the slide to upgrade prevents anything else, carpal tunnel ensued from this process.

    * got angry, really angry - paused for 7 days awaiting Apple to respond to it's colossal ef up.

    (Seven days later, after seeing the iOS 9.0.1 update all over the web.. (today))

    *  attached same ipad Gen 2 to itunes on computer

    *  was briefly excited as the ipad showed signs of life, while asking icloud settings, etc...

    *  quickly was knocked down, trying to go into recovery mode, only to have it 'not find my ipad' that is connected

    *  got even more angry

    *  went through this feed, found the ReiBoot thing, was worried this would be virus, but willing to try anything at this point.

    *  downloaded it, and now trying it.

         *  7 hours into this now but it is looking promising, showing far more progress on the black apple icon screen than it has in the past almost two weeks.

         *  fingers crossed

    *  restore now asks, to 'Activate iPad'

    *  EUREKA!  This finally fixed it.

         *  Turned on location services

         *  Removed password

         *  Connect to iTunes - wait wait wait (freaking out inside because it is not connecting)

    RESTORE IN PROGRESS

    Finally worked.

    This was not fun.  I am happy to say that at LEAST it wasn't my phone.

    I am now on the newest update and the iPad is working.

    (Is this detailed enough for you?)
