This is what he outlined, and it worked perfectly for me.  Although the firmware for 8.4 is not hosted by Apple, it is the correct firmware -- I had no trouble installing it and no trouble upgrading to 9.0 from 8.4.  The issue (at least in my case) was in upgrading from 7.0 -- put me in a loop that nothing (hard reset, etc., etc., etc.) fixed.

Step 1 - Backup your pictures! Even though you can't get to your phone and use it you should still be able to backup your pictures

Step 2 - Download IOS 8.4.1 for your iPhone or iPad from this site --> https://ipsw.me/8.4.1

The file was taking a while to download for my phone so I searched the filename on Google and downloaded from Mega.

Step 3 - Reboot phone into DFU mode - hold down power button and home button - when it reboots let go of power button - still hold home button

At this point it will ask you to connect your phone to iTunes - will have to connect phone to the computer.

Step 4 - Hold down the Option (Mac) or Shift (Windows) and and then click restore.

Step 5 - Browse to the 8.4.1 file you downloaded and select it. This should restore to the previous IOS version. Note: This will wipe phone.

Step 6 - Restore from backup. Hope that you backed up before attempting to update.

I tried downloading the ios 9.0.1 update with the likely fix. It took me 10 hours to download the entire 1.3GB update via itunes and ultimately when it was done it showed an error prompt !!!! So back to square one after wasting an entire day !

Also I cannot backup my device via itunes for some reason. So i dont quite know what to do. My biggest nightmare ever as i havent backed up my device, its bricked and im losing patience and perhaps all my data !

    Is there any hope ?

Will Apple help us out of our misery ?

For those of us trying to migrate an iOS 7 device to new iPhone 6S devices, this bug is an absolute nightmare.  Here's how things went:

    1.  Tried to do the upgrade.  Got stuck at "Slide to Upgrade".

    2.  Tried moving my SIM card back to my iPhone 5, only to find that Sprint had deactivated access for my old phone the moment I activated the 6S.  So now I have no phone.

    3.  Can't downgrade to iOS 8.x because the iPhone 6S won't run anything lower than iOS 9.

I'm currently doing a complete wipe of the device, and flipping a coin as to whether to try again to restore from the backup or just give up and set it up as a new device, with the caveat that I probably only have time to do one or the other before I have to be able to make phone calls.

What part of "software testing" does Apple not understand?  How in you-know-where could something like this get past even the most basic QA testing?  Do they not have backup images from iOS 7 devices to test with?  This should have been part of an automated test suite that runs every night whenever a new iOS build drops.  A bug this severe should *never* have made it into the wild.

I just got my iPhone 6s today and after I backed up through iTunes it stuck on slide to upgrade.

I tried the way apple provided it didn't work.

After searching and trying for 2 hours, here is the way I solve this problem.

Most important thing!!!! Your iTunes need to update to 12.3!!!! Otherwise, I think there is no other way can solve this problem.

Just connect your iPhone to iTunes and restore it! Don't try update it, it will not work.

    Hope this will help you.

The normal update worked for me.  The bug appears to be fixed in iOS 9.0.1.  After you update the OS to 9.0.1 using iTunes, the "slide to upgrade" switch should "just work".

This worked perfectly - since mine was brand new - and I could't go back to a previous version via cloud or otherwise.  So - this hard 'hard' reset was perfect!!

Thank you!!  I wish I found you hours earlier!
