    Krystalline.,

Just restart your iPhone, and let it pick up where it left off! I had a similar problem on the last IOS8 update....and although I was very worried to brick my phone that way, I had to do it as there were no other solution UI could think off.

Then, the phone pick up where it was before...but this time completed its update and all was fine.

Fairly similar thing also happened on my Daughter's Mac Laptop while upgrading the OS system, I force restarted and it went the same way too, and did work fine in the end.

So, it is your choice, but other than that, I cant see how you will be able to get that phone to finish what it started. In the worse case scenario, you will have to restore it fully, either with a backup or the new IOS9 again to its default settings.

iTunes updates via computer (Mac if possible, not Windows if possible), seems to be the safer option, alt least for now on the initial IOS9 update.

Let me know how it went, and share your feedback for others to benefit form it if you have a minute to spare.

    Good luck!

If you set up Find My iPhone you can disable find my iPhone at iCloud.com/find

Yes Craigypye, there is a way to update IOS9 over the air, (OTA), but it is not as stable and less recommended! Now this does not mean it does not work, as I did my iPad 3 and it worked fine!

    Your choice!

I am afraid you will have tofirst update your OSX version, then check again and download all relevant software updates, before you can update via iTunes....unless you want to do it OTA (Over the air) through wifi?

Not recommended by many, but still worked for me on my iPad 3 100%; so why not? Your choice.

However, you may have to still consider upgrading your OSX version, as otherwise it might really start to block you in many different ways in the future and on the long run. Beside, how are you going to do a computer backup if you cant access iTunes properly in the first place?

Why didn't you update to the latest or one the latest OSX version? By choice, or because your hardware does not support it? Just wondering?....

What I did was put the ios 9.1 beta on my friends phone and that seemed to have worked, if you aren't a developer than try finding the restore file from a friend who is. This bug was very peculiar and still not easy to understand what is causing it.

THANX a million times! This worked for me. Restoring from itunes and NOT setting a password on made all the difference. I now have a 5c with ios 9 and everything (except maybe the password function - havent dared to try) is working fine. Happy!

From what i noticed i saw if you have the older IOS 6, 7, it causes this glitch.  But the ones that have the 8.1.4 i think, thats the one that works fine to upgrade to ios 9.  Unfortunately I had the older IOS 6.1.1 and i was unable to upgrade to ios 9.

Solution??  I had to upgrade to manually upgrade to ios 9, downgrade it to ios 8.1.4, and then reinstall ios 9 to work.  All this process did delete all of my settings and contents.  Even when i did a back up, i tried to do a restore back up,  and it caused the same slide to upgrade message.

Another solution?  Wipe all of the settings from iphone, make sure ios 9 is upgraded, and it works perfect after.  Dont do the back up that itunes does, it will just go back to slide to upgrade glitch and you will have to do it all over again.  (or you can restore to factory settings)

After all of this i did waste a lot of time, and patient for apple.  I lost so much information we should not be able to be forced to factory reset when there is a upgrade or because we didnt do a upgrade from previous ios.  I wish everybody better luck and i hope everything works fine for you guys.

    Agree completely with Jetfighter

I, like man others, spent most of yesterday fixing my iphone 5s. It was running IOS7 when the OTA upgrade to IOS9 was attempted. It was stuck at the "Swipe to Upgrade" screen like everyone else. Tried the restore but it would go forward because "find my iphone" was still active - but I could not get into the phone to turn it off. I did eventually remove it from icloud.com but it still had issues. Restarted the phone at least 30-40x yesterday.

Eventually entered DFU mode (to bypass the "find my iphone is still on" message) to restore via itunes. Neither iCloud nor itunes (physical) restores / update worked. The restores would appear to be fine and run through the entire setup starting at HELLO... but then as soon as the very end "Let's get started" page was pressed it would send me back to the "Swipe to Upgrade" screen.

Someone mentioned not selecting anything (wifi, setting passcode, location services, icloud) on the initial set up and that did appear to work but would eventually crash to the Swipe to Upgrade screen.

Unfortunately, the only way to have a working phone was to "set up as new iphone", which mean all data was lost. None of the restore options worked. I ended up using imactools.com's "iBackup Viewer" software to download my icloud backup and extracted out my contacts. txt, vms, voice memo's, pictures, etc. I can view all my notes in the tool, but after Apple changed how notes behaved (icloud), I was not able to get those back on my iphone (at least I still have access to them).

    Frustrating...very frustrating.

I was able to get past the "turn off find my iphone" by doing that from the cloud.

The patient people at Apple Support walked me thru a fix.

I had backed up my iphone to iTunes before I attempted to upgrade to ios9.  I do not subscribe to icloud - and have been getting the message that my phone is unable to back up to icloud forever.

They had me bring the phone up as a new phone (and it came up under ios9 just fine).  It was a little scary to know all my data was going away.

From there I a was able to sync to my contacts via icloud, and copy my apps over.

I have lost some things like my text message history.  I bet I'll be able to bring it back later.  Other than that, my phone works!
