iOS9 podcasts play order

Why have Apple again changed the podcasts app so that you can only play all unplayed podcasts from new to old. This makes no sense, would you read a book from the end to the beginnig, or watch a TV series from the last episode to the first? Of course not, so why is the default for podcasts new to old with no option of changing it anywhere. I have seen that you can change an individual podcast to play from old to new, but the Unplayed playlist which is what I think the majority of users will be using has no setting anywhere to change the play order.

There are two settings relevant to keeping podcasts episodes in the Podcasts app and in a Station after they have been played: Podcast Settings (below left) and Station Settings (below right).

• Delete Played Episodes in the Podcast Settings must be Off and

• the Unplayed Only slider must be Off.

As for the Sort order, it can only be set to Newest or Oldest in the Podcast Settings (below left).

Stations show the oldest podcasts on top by default, however, you can manually change that by tapping Edit in the upper right of a Station screen.

Station Settings permit you to select from four choices for Play order.

So I've tried everything, subscribed to a bunch of podcasts changed each to play and sort oldest to newest, then created a new station and even applied the setting to play oldest to newest even before selecting the podcasts I want. Everytime it just order the most recent episodes for each podcast in order of oldest to newest based on the unplayed list only. NOT all episodes in each podcast (which is what I want and what cyberbiker is talking about). Now using Overcast which does this perfectly

As best I can tell the "Unplayed" panel is useless. You're stuck with playing through all your podcasts from the newest onwards (what on earth do Apple's software engineers think we do with podcasts?!). Plus all the description is a massive bloat in the interface.

More useful: "My Podcasts". When you first check that pane it looks ridiculous - a long list of all podcasts you've ever used, with most of mine at least having 0 episodes. But in the upper left corner you can press the "+" button to add a podcast or, more importantly, a station. You can then make a station that will include the podcasts you want: in my case, it's all of them, in the order I set them to long ago. There seems to be some moderately fine-grained control in the settings, although I haven't played with it yet. You can also set up a bunch of different stations. After that, when you choose the "My Podcasts" tab, any stations you've made will be listed at the top of the screen.

Unfortunately it seems like the app always opens to "Unplayed" rather than "My Podcasts", but I guess like with the Music app, I'm going to have to get used to clicking through a few pages before I get to the list of playlists that I want.

Go to "My Podcasts" and scroll to the top. You'll see "Most Recent." That's where you can access settings (also at the top) and change the play order from oldest to newest. You don't have to create a new playlist. That makes the whole unplayed vs. most recent work exactly opposite of the way the was it used to in the previous version, but it at least allows you to play all podcasts in oldest to newest order.

I agree that the "unplayed" playlist is pretty useless for how I listen to podcasts.

When you scroll to the top of "My Podcasts" the only thing revealed is a search bar. There is no "Most Recent" or any other sorting option. Lost in Asia and cyberbiker's responses are accurate. See attached image for reference. Note I've already created a station called "Old to New" - this station will obviously not be present on others' devices.User uploaded file
