Apple Migration Assistant obliterated file dates

In moving my files from a PC (with Windows 7) to a MacBook Pro (with OS X 10.10), Apple's Migration Assistant changed all the file dates (i.e., the creation dates, the last-modified dates, and the last-accessed dates) to the current date and time. This is totally unacceptable! Was it just me, or have others had the same problem?

I assume I'll have to wipe out all these migrated files and start over. But how do I get it to work next time? How do I migrate my files and keep the correct dates on them?

I struggled with this problem when trying to migrate 15 years' worth of files from a PC to a Mac. It's astonishing that Migration Assistant doesn't preserve this metadata, and all the Apple reps I spoke to said that there was no fix they knew of. In the end, I used SyncBack (a third-party tool) to transfer all of my files from one computer to the other, which preserved all of the file dates. Migration Assistant is effectively useless.
