Do Lutron Caseta lightswitches require the Caseta Hub or just Homekit? The Hub thing is confusing with different versions and standards.

Do Lutron Caseta lightswitches require the Caseta Hub or just Homekit? I presume they need a hub because a lot of these are not sophisticated enough to login to Wifi. Like you couldn't login to WiFi with your light switch. The Hub thing is confusing with different versions and standards. For example if a hub is required and I get a Caseta hub, if I get Insteon products do I also need an Insteon Hub? Seems to still be a fractured system. Is there a Universal hub that handles all of these different standards? Would like to understand the architecture before I invest any more money. Nest already burned me.

I have been using the Lutron Caseta for about 6 months. It works great with HomeKit but you will need the 2nd Gen Caseta Hub for operation. I have shades, lights and pico's all set up with the Lutron App and HomeKit at the same time. Be aware that there is a limit as to how many devices you can add to the hub, I think its 45. More then that requires an additional hub and separate Lutron account; PIA. Both hubs and all devices will connect to HomeKit. Most of the hubs are locked down to their brands, but you can have say a Phillips Hue hub and Lutron Hub connected to HomeKit at the same time. I had started out with Wink as they support so many devices but they are not HomeKit compatible. I suspect as time moves on this will all improve. Hope this helps.
