iTunes 12.3 problems

Hi all,

I can't get the new iTunes to download. Getting error "There is a problem with this installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run."

Installed iOS9 on my phone - and PC wouldn't recognize it. Uninstalled iTunes 12.2.25 after several attempts at the update to 12.3, so now I have no tunes on the PC...

Thanks for any assistance.

I found a workaround, which should for any version of Windows (Vista, 7, 8, 8.1, and 10):

1) Close iTunes if open

2) Use a program such as 7-zip to open up the iTunes 12.3 executable (e.g. iTunes6464Setup.exe) and extract the following:

  • iTunes6464.msi
  • AppleApplicationSupport64.msi
  • AppleMobileDeviceSupport6464.msi

NOTE: the names will vary slight for 32-bit OSs

3) Right-click on AppleApplicationSupport64.msi and choose install. If there is a prompt to repair or install then choose repair.

4) Right-click on AppleMobileDeviceSupport6464.msi and choose install. If there is a prompt to repair or install then choose repair.

5) Right-click on iTunes6464.msi and choose install.

Recommendation: Preform these steps of upgrading iTunes after updating all your devices to iOS 9 due a different problem.

Cause: The problem most likely is caused by AppleSoftwareUpdate.msi for 64-bit versions of Windows.
