Q: iPhone not recognized in iTunes 12.3

I have iTunes 12.3 installed on a laptop running Windows 10 and cannot get my iPhone 6 plus with ios 9.0 to be recognized to sync or backup.  The troubleshooting indicated it may be incompatible with USB 3.0.  What can I do to resolve this issue? Thank you

Fantastic!  This worked for me both for iPhone and iPad.  Thank you sooooo much!  Apple needs to post this.  Think they will?  Do they ever, or do they make us find the solution ourselves?

My issue was similar but different versions.  I have:

iPhone 4S  iOS 9.0.1 (issue after upgrading)  Win 8.1 64 bit

My issue after upgrading was with iTunes. I upgraded my iPhone 4S on Sat 09/26/2015 to 9.0.1. The upgrade took hours.  My iTunes was 12.1 (or 12.01?). After the upgrade completed, iTunes could not recognize my phone.  It displayed: The iPhone cannot be used because it requires a newer version of iTunes.  Go to www.itunes.com to download the latest version of iTunes.  I used the iTunes Help menu to check for an update, but iTunes reported no updates available.  The web page was useless.  It gave instructions to use the iTunes Help menu.  I tried rebooting both devices and attempted the Driver update instructions described in this discussion--tried "Program Files" and "Program files (x86).  Nothing worked and then I got tired and gave up.

On 09/27, a pop-up displayed indicating that iTunes 12.3 is available.  The install just finished and I need to reboot.  The issue should be resolved after the reboot.

My 2-cent Apple complaint: iTunes painted itself into a corner: upgraded my iPhone but then was itself a version that was too old to communicate with the upgraded iPhone and then was unable to recognize or find the latest version.  Quality Control, what is that?

Make sure you are using an administrator account.  Any of them on your machine will do for the following

    a) Get Windows to restart the drivers:

        - disconnect your USB device and close ITunes

        - connect your USB device

        - if ITunes loads, close it.

    b) File explorer:

    • Open File explorer and browse to
    • C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers
    • In that folder there should be a set of files named "usbaapl64...."
    • right click on the one ending in "INF"
    • Select Install.  It's very quick.
    • remove the USB device

    c) Restart the computer.

When you login again, load ITunes before you attach your USB device.

The upgrade to iTunes 12.3 completed successfully on my Win8.1 computer, and iTunes now recognizes my iPhone 4S iOS 9.0.1.

Thanks for the community support.  It is nice to know you folks are out there offering help (or a shoulder to cry on).

This is brilliant.  ITunes now recognizes my IPhone it hopefully will recognize the ipad too.  Let's hope apple will fix the bug in the next gen of the product.
