Question. I have found my mac address in settings. I downloaded a network monitor app called isecure but when it shows MY IPHONE the mac address is 20.00.00.00 which is different from my mac address in settings for both my phone and bluetooth. What is going on? I notice my network carrier 3 starts with a 20.0 but I don't understand why I have 3 mac addresses showing for one Iphone on the network monitor app?
Each network interface will have its own MAC address. The WiFi adapter will have one, the Bluetooth adapter will have one, and the cellular adapter will have one.
If you look, I have 2 MAC addresses - one for Bluetooth and one for WiFi. The cellular chip will have one also. They're all your actual device. But each adapter has its own address.
Thank you. I think I understan. I am useless with technology! I know that my wifi router has a MAC address. That shows on another network monitor app. But i am talking about just my iPhone. It will show MY IPHONE and below it shows the MAC address as 20.00.00.00 then it shows the MAC address that I find in settings. I'm guessing the MY IPHONE MAC address 20.00.00.00 is the cellular network which is my carrier 3 the company that I pay for my minutes, text and data. The other MAC address is my actual device. My Bluetooth doesn't show on my network monitor app, but I can view it in my settings. I am a bit of a dummy. But that's basically what you are saying? I think? Reply if I'm correct! I wasn't aware of some of the privacy apps that I needed to apply as I had given my wifi router password to a few people that worried me a little as I'm not sure what info could be transferred across a private network. However I have changed it since and learned of changing also the password for access to the router settings. I love my iPhone but am just becoming familiar with it and I think it may need an MOT as I set ringtones but sometimes they revert back to default ringtone. I guess my major concern was that someone had spoofed a MAC address as the 2 that showed up on the netwirk monitor had the same ip address. I never use Bluetooth except rarely, so that is usually switched off.
I See! I just didn't understand why it showed in the app MY IPHONE as the cellular Mac. I asked a friend to download the app and under MYIPHONE it showed their device Mac. But thanks guys it makes a lot of sense. In my settings my carrier has changed from 20.0 to 21.0 ha one anxiety to the next. As I said, over the last 2 months I have learned to love my iPhone! Before I was strictly android, but the more I use the iPhone the more I love it! I am considering getting an iPad as soon as I can afford a decent one. I'm stuck with an android tablet and I don't think you can compare in anyway! It's always tricky to figure out privacy settings with a new device and because I literally had zero and would let anyone play with my iPhone as I was using an android, I found a few shocking apps that I deleted! My iPhone has just updated to the IOS 9 and it's like having a brand new phone everytime a new an update becomes available. Yep, I am officially hooked on iPhones! Any further comments welcome.
