ios9 wifi not working

Hello,

Since updating to iOS 9 I cannot connect to my work wifi. It keeps telling me the password is incorrect even though it is identical to my PC which is connected. I have an iPhone 5s 16gb. wifi at home works fine.

Take a look at this Apple Support article:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204051

Reset your network settings.

Settings - General - Reset - Reset Network Settings

Reset your device. This won't delete your data stored on the phone.

  • Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button
  • Press and hold on the Home button
  • Keep holding both buttons until the display turns off and back on with Apple logo on it.

Alternatively, you may go to Settings - General - Reset - Reset All Settings

All of the Solutions I've Tried:

  • Reset Network Settings
  • Reset All Settings
  • Reboot iPhone
  • Restore iPhone (from backup or "as new phone")
  • Turn off Wi-Fi assist (Settings>Cellular>Scroll Down)
  • Change the signal on your wifi router from 2.4gHz to 5gHz
  • Reboot your router
  • Restore your router to factory settings
  • Changing your bandwidth from 40mHz or "auto" to 20mHz on your router settings
  • Turn off Wi-Fi Networking and reboot (Settings>Privacy>Location Services>System Services>Wi-Fi Networking off)
  • Downgrade to a previous iOS software (Near impossible since they don't sign the previous versions anymore)

I have tried ALL of these solutions multiple times and I still have a weak signal or it disconnects and then can't find the network at all. I have read through just about every forum there is about why this is happening and NOTHING WORKS. Yes, some of these might work temporarily but what good does that do. I'm tired of racking up high data charges when my phone was working perfectly fine a month ago. I can't believe that this is still a problem for so many people.

I think I figured this out. Took about an hour of frustration.

I have a 4s with iOS 9.1, 2.4GHz wi-fi.

I logged into the wireless (linksys) security settings for my router and discovered that the 5GHz and 2.4GHz bands had different passwords.

A small bit of Googling revealed that that the iPhone 5 was the first to offer dual band wi-fi.

So check the password for both bands and make sure you're using the one for the band you're using.

Hope this helps someone.

I just reset my iPhone 6s plus to factory defaults, deleting everything, and it didn't help. I have a brand new Linksys AC3200 router. There are no special configurations on this router at all. Everything works perfectly with it except my the two iPhones in the house (6s Plus and 6). They can connect but everntaully the connection doesn't have Internet access and I need to turn off wifi and then turn it back on to get it to work again.

I'm less than thrilled about the experience on the iPhone so far. I just got this phone switching from something else and I'm already regretting it.

Thank you tdollimore and to all who have posted and commented on problem and possible fixes.

I finally gave in to the annoying daily requests to update iOS and iPhone 4S will no longer connect to Wifi saying password incorrect (3G is OK)

The cause remains a mystery. It is also rather disappointing to see from this thread that after so many months and iOS 9 updates this is still an issue.

As many have reported it is also in my case most likely NOT a network/router issue, iPhone 4S has problems connecting to two separate wifi networks, yet multiple other iOS devices connect to both Wifi networks without problems (including another 4S; both old and new iPads and AppleTV's as well as MacBookPro's) .

It is also not a SSID issue. All SSID's are visible, the iPhone 4S does see and display the SSID's but can't connect (asking for password, which of course was previously not needed, and then reporting that password entered is not correct - for both routers' main networks and also one guest network - yet passwords are definitely all entered correctly.)

It is not outdated firmware as all Routers' were coincidentally updated just a few weeks ago (and as other devices have no troubles routers do not seem to be the cause of wifi issue)

Is not VPN as iPhone doesn't have VPN . . . and coincidentally an iPad with VyprVPN connects fine (with ios9.1 . . . will not risk updating to 9.2) as do a couple of OSX El Cap MacBookPro's.

It is not Wi-FI assist as this has been disabled for iPhone 4S and so not an available setting.

Tried (in this order with no success):

Forced restart iPhone

Resetting iPhone network settings

Rebooting Routers

Full Backup up of iPhone manually to 'This computer' before resetting and restoring from local backup

(this final step essentially a disaster as restoring from backup *failed to find* 124 apps, second attempt to restore returned sync error, third attempt reset and restore again returned lost apps error . . so iPhone essentially wiped of most Apps and still no wifi connection! Now manually reinstalling key apps one by one via App Store over 3G :-(

Didn't try: Entering Google DNS (as without wifi connection there are no numbers under DHCP to change, plus iPad that is connected without problem has DNS settings (not Google) from Router, and connects fine);

Odd behaviour, possibly linked? (or just coincidental):

For some weeks getting error message "This iPhone hasn't been backed up in [large number] weeks . Backups happen when this iPhone is plugged in, locked, and connected to Wi-Fi" despite all conditions being met (until iOS update and loss of wifi connection) *large* number now at 143 weeks (?)

Asked to trust computer when connecting, this 'trust' not being remembered so being asked every time (iPhone and computer end).

I experienced all these problems from Christmas onwards with my iPhone 6. It was originally on ios8 that I had issues but these still occurred even when updating to the latest version.

Could not connect to certain wifi networks especially my works BT wifi that kept dismissing the connection or connecting and then losing it as soon as you entered Safari. The phone would also only pick up one or two wifi networks where many more should have been in range.

After trying all the suggestions from this thread, I gave up and went in to Apple store. After running a diagnostic check and resetting the phone as new they still encountered the same issue. They eventually admitted defeat and advised that this must be a hardware fault within the phone and thankfully replaced the phone as it was within warranty.

Frustrating having to go through weeks of losing wifi connection and various resets but at least I know it was the phone and there wasn't anything that could be done.

If you're still in warranty I'd take it back to Apple and get them to check it's not a similar hardware fault.

Upgraded to iOS9 and the fun began. Install was fine, then tried to go through the screens to set the iPad up and got hung up on the screen where I enter my password. I knew it was correct credentials. Why? I just logged into iTunes with them. But it would work - b/c the wifi was not found. So I hard booted the iPad and luckily it asked for a wifi network. It couldn't find mine so I just continued and for some crazy reason it accepted my username and password on the next screen. Who knows!?!?

Apple, you have got to do a better job at this upgrade process! Last chance or Samsung here I come.

iPhone 5Ghz wifi connection issue fixed (aka "wifi password incorrect" error)

We have 6 iPhones in our household and all bar 1 of them connect to the wifi network without problems. One of them (an iPhone 5s) only connects to the wireless 5G network. It will connect to the 2.4G wireless when it is physically next to the internet router (not much good for wireless).

I happened to upgrade my router firmware to the opensource DD-WRT firmware and I played about with the settings on the router which caused the problem iPhone to stop connecting to 5G as well. It saw the wifi network okay but when I tried to join it, it just showed the "wifi password incorrect" error message. It seems that this iPhone has a wifi signal problem (probably hardware related) and can only connect when the signal is of a certain strength and quality. Which explains why it only works on some wifi networks.

To fix the iPhone 5s so that it connected again to the router I changed the router wireless settings for the 5Ghz band so that the "Channel Width" is set to "Full (20Mhz)".

This cured the problem at home, unfortunately it didn't improve the 2.4Ghz connection issue but that might be peculiar to my iPhone.

Hope this helps others as it took me ages to find this out.

Hey guys! Just had the same problem and kinda find a solution for myself (i dont have any VPN apps on the phone so i can confirm from where the problem is)...here we go:

Settings>Wi-Fi

when u connect to your wifi ssid press the "i" button... i noticed my IP address was not a regular one (as 192.168.1....), and even the renew the lease didnt help so from DHCP i switch to static and filled the information:

IP: 192.168.1.109 (i checked in my router which address is free)

Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.0

Router: 192.168.1.1 (i own linksys router)

thats it! DNS came automatically! went to home screen and turned airplane mode ON/OFF (5sec) and internet was back on!!

hope it helps...and all our problems are fixed soon by apple!!

Um my SSID is not hidden and there is no mac filtering on my router settings

Hi...I have an iPad...I have done the update and now I have major issues ...the screen is ridiculously slow on the unlock swipe...it won't connect to the Wi-Fi...I can't log in to the iCloud because of the WiFi....I have had problem after problem with Apple updates. My old phone was an iPhone 5s..it kept dropping WiFi for no reason when other devices in the house were fine..this was gradually getting worse with every update...I got rid..sooooo happy with my Z5 and it's camera is sooooo good and the WiFi signal never drops off....but now I have a useless white block called an iPad that is no good...come on Apple surely your updates should not cause so much grief...I've a feeling I'm not the only one loosing faith in apple products! My iPad is now a posh looking coaster mat for a cup of coffee...very, very irate...I've done everything people have suggested....sigh
