Sep 22, 2015 2:47 PM in response to Jman0125by Kincaidia,I've tried everything suggested thus far, including a factory reset, and no luck. A public announcement of "we're working on it, sit tight" or something is absolutely in order. This is getting quite frustrating.

Sep 22, 2015 4:20 PM in response to Jman0125by bigvees,I had similar issue today. My text stopped working even iMessage was disabled. Not able to enable iMessage anyways giving activation error. In Settings>iMessage> Send & Receive only Apple Id was showing my Mobile number was not showing. In Phone>All contacts> My number was some 13 digit number. ATnT asked me to change the SIM. They registered new SIM with my mobile number and after that issue is resolved.
I could see My number correct, iMessage and Facetime able to activate with my Mobile number. Everything works as before.

What was your error exactly? And did iMessage also stop working on ipad/Mac or other devices prior to the switch if so did it fix them too?

I did troubleshooting with ATnT for half day and nothing worked. iMessage was giving activation error. iMessage works with your phone number and Apple ID. By default it use phone number. In my case phone number was not coming up. Something was messed up at sim level as phone number was exactly same when I am calling but when I am looking at Phone>All contacts> My number it was showing 13 digit number. It should match with my number. After sim changed it was showing my number and that 13 digit number was gone. I did reset settings, n number of power cycles but in the end ATnT recommend me to change the SIM. If anyone having similar issue pls check Phone>All contacts> My number.

Sep 23, 2015 9:04 PM in response to Jman0125by Hav2GetPaid,When I Updated to ISO 9 from my iPhone 6 I was at work and when i returned home my iMessage was not communicating with my mac mini so i tried everything posted on this forum. then I restored my phone from my latest backup at home close to my mac mini and everything worked perfectly. Hope This helped... I think that if you do an update on an iPad, iPhone, and you have everything set up on all devices at home, it is better to do your updates at home so all devices can link at once ...

I have tried all of the described resets, factory resets, sign in/out procedures and none of them resolve them problem. Is the iMessage server down? This all started as soon as I upgraded to iOS 9. Never had this problem when Steve Jobs was around.

Sep 24, 2015 10:35 PM in response to Jman0125by Captzag,If the issue is that iMessages are not showing up on your iPad and that your phone number does not appear in the iMessages settings on your iPad, I had that same issue. Here is my fix (based upon something I read on the Apple web site). I went into the messaging settings on my iPhone >send/receive and activated use Apple ID. I saw on the Apple Web site that unless the phone is using Apple ID, no phone number will appear on the other devices. I had mistakenly assumed that the phone was using my Apple ID for iMessages. It wasn't. As soon as I activated it for iMessages, the phone number showed up on my iPad and the iMessages began appearing there as they had before iOS 9 update. Problem solved!

Sep 27, 2015 11:16 AM in response to Jman0125by MOPLUM,I Have the same instant message wont work problem with my iPad 2. - 64 gig. have down loaded ios 9.01 that allowed me to get into instant messaginging. I typed two test send messages. It took two hours on the first message to send. The second is still trying to send after 16 hours. I started a disscusion like this days ago but only got one answer so far, suggesting I reset my router. Things I have done so far: I have followed settings instructions for logging into instant messaging; reset router; reset password; verified my email in apple account settings, restart iPad, down loaded ios 9.01. some of these steps has helped get into instant messaging but none has gotten it to work. I think one of the most frustrating issuse is it asks continually for my user name and password when I Try to open the app, after it verifys my user name and password it opens settings for instant messages and asks for my user name and password all over again. Of course my iPad 2 is not eligable for apple care anymore so I hope an update to ios 9.01 comes out to fix this problem.

After a trip to the Genius Bar that revealed no solution other than to: a) wait for a patch from Apple, or b) rebuild my iPad, I tried all of the suggestions on this thread and nothing worked. The guy at the Genius Bar said he'd not recommend option b as it "may or may not fix your problem."
After finding the problem on 2/4 of my Apple products, I wiped my oldest iPad clean by resetting all settings and erasing all content. Rebuilding took about an hour per iPad, and it wasn't as bad as I thought. I just reloaded my apps from the App Store, reset settings, and done. In fact, both iPads run faster and the battery life is as it should be.
You've got nothing to lose, so back up your content and start over. It stopped the incessant cursing at my iPad, so it was worth the time.

my iPod Touch 5th gen is having the same issue. Can't sign in using Apple ID. I can sign in on my other iPads and iMacs, Macbook and iBook.
I've reset everything. Stumped.
But thanks anyway....

I've tried everything, even restoring both the ipad and the phone to factory settings and i still can't get in imessage on my ipad. My phone and computer work fine.
