Q: Ipad really slow after update to iOS 9

I updated my iPad mini (1) to iOS 9 yesterday, and now it is really slow. It takes forever to open or close apps, the swipe to close is a real pain, I have to swipe several times before I can close an app, and sometimes they just won't go away. I am getting very frustrated with this and wish I had not gone and updated it. Has anyone else had this issue?

Exactly the same problem. Would be really constructive if we could go back to older versions.

Same problem, wi-fi icon would also blink on and off. 9.0.2 didn't help. Turning off Spotlight didn't help. Erasing and restoring didn't help. Only turning off Wi Fi helped, but then no internet = sad.

But then, telling the iPad to forget each wireless network, then rejoin just mine, fixed it.

Was looking for ways to try and speed up my iPad this morning, and discovered this unnamed app on my iPad. Does anyone know what the heck this is? It wasn't there before I installed iOS 9, and it seems to be using up a fair amount of memory. Dont like it when strange things show up on my device and I didn't install them.

Well After updating my iPad mini to iOS 9 it has become terribly slow. Dont know what should I do to make it faster. Apple are you listening we need a Lite version of the OS. If you release an update for older generation ipads.

I have Ipad Mini (1), it became practically un-usable since iOS 9 upgrade.

If Apple can not fix the problem soon,  I need help to downgrade IOS version (8.x) and use it until this problem is fixed. Tried a few methods myself and failed.

In the future, I hope some test engineers at Apple take a look at old iPads and do not let those to be upgraded if they see any problem (which is actually very easy to spot, just use the device for 5 minutes after the upgrade, it should not cost a lot ? )

I have upgraded my own iPad 3, my Wife's iPad 2 and my new iPod Touch, all with 64 GBs of storage space, and every device had a successful upgrade to iOS 9 with no issues.

If your iPad was near full (2 GBs of free storage space or less) this is but only one reason why your older iPad isn't coping well with iOS 9.

You need to backup all of your data on your iPad, either to iTunes on a computer, through Apple's own iCloud OR a dedicated Wireless WiFi hard drive, and then start deleting items off of your iPad.

You should start with paring down any music, movies and photos you may have on your iPad.

Then look at apps that you may no longer use and delete these (you can always redownload deleted apps at a later time.

Ideally, your iDevice should maintain a minimum free storage amount of 4- 6 GBs or greater on any iDevice, plus, more than 50% battery status to ensure proper operation, as well as, to ensure the possibility of a successful iOS upgrade/update installation.

In addition, it is best to upgrade an iDevice connected up to computer running iTunes with you iDevice sync'd and backed up through iTunes rather than Over The Air (OTA) using a wireless WiFi connection.

Have any of you here in this posting tried a hard reset of your iPad by holding down both the Home and sleep/wake buttons simultaneously until your iPad goes to black and restarts with Apple logo, then release the buttons?

Well Storage shouldn't be an issue for the lagging, I have 4+ GB freespace on my 16 GB iPad Mini. Its the update that made it super slow and sluggish. Have also Hard reset and I notice no improvements. Even typing there is considerable amount of lag which is horrible. Hope to see a complete new update soon from Apple.

You're looking at a app that didn't install fully. First try a reset. Press and hold both the home and power buttons until the Apple logo appears. Release both fingers. Wait until your iPad starts on it's own. See if the app fully downloaded. If not delete it then go to the App Store > purchased  see which app you're missing and re-install it.

Some people pefer an slow ipad but with the new OS...The ideal solution is to provide an IOS6 o IO7 (plus some security patches) to older devices. And  left to the use the decisión on wich OS version to use. Ipad Air 1 is 7 times faster that IPAD 2....and double the memory (very important to improve the user experience).

All content erased and hard reset applied with recovery.

Slowest app is safari itself, there is at least half a second delay to keynoard touch feedback when entering url address.

Applied all performance related changes on accessibility and other settings.

    Peoples,

The amount of users reporting into these forums with iOS issues with their iDevices represents a very, VERY small minority.

There are tens of millions (or more) of iDevice users who aren't having issues with their devices and who don't post in user troubleshooting forums, like those provided by Apple.

Just because the small minority of users having issues, that post here,  doesn't mean that  Apple is at fault or that Apple is forcing users of older hardware to upgrade to newer hardware or Apple is "out to get your money" for a new device!

It just means that some older hardware has had some arbitrary issue that has caused problems with upgrading to new versions of iOS.

OR there was some unforeseen iOS bug or software glitch or anomaly that has affected a small minority of users devices.

This has always been a common issue across all major iOS AND OS X upgrades/updates.

It a pervasive issue when dealing with OS upgrades/updates with so many users with so many different configurations.

WIth an ever growing iDevice user base, there will be users that will, invariably and inevitably, run into problems.

Yes, it is a small consolation for those who have iDevices that either aren't working properly or not at all, but the issues ARE NOT RAMPANT across the entire user base of iOS devices!

Apple can't test for every device configuration contingency.

Everyone uses these devices differently and have different apps and data on them and older devices cannot use some features of a new iOS upgrade due to older hardware limitations.

There are just too many variables that are out of Apple's control and can't be tested or accounted for.

For those iDevice users who have devices that are, basically, non-functional or dead, my recommendation is to bring your iDevice into an Apple Store and see if they can diagnose the issues and perform the upgrade in the store for you.

If you have never backed up the data that is on your iDevice, be prepared for Apple to do a restore as new device and try to install the iOS 9 upgrade on an empty iDevice.

Good Luck to everyone and I hope all of you can get your iPads/iPhones/iPod Touches working well again!

Make a iCloud backup then take your iPad to the Apple Store and let them look at it.

How can you make such sweeping comments. If its just few people reporting doesn't mean the problem doesn't exist. Check other forums and people are exactly reporting the same lagging issue on their Old iDevices. With your statement it appears apple doesn't care for people using their old devices. It is a genuine issue and someone rightly pointed out that slowest app on iOS 9 is Safari, typing itself is so sluggish.

Apple should seriously provide us with an option to revert back to the old version as my ipad is absolutely unusable with this kind of sluggishness.
