Q: WATER DAMAGED IPHONE S WITH RED LIGHT

Unfortunately last night i threw my phone onto the bed, yes...it ended up fully submerged into a pint of water for arounf 5-10 seconds. Throw of the year! NOT

I have tried the rice trick and after around hour on charge my phone decided to turn on. I have passcode on my phone and the phone always asks you turn manually time in your passcode after the phone has been off. It appears that the touch screen is not working. So my phone is now stuck on the lock page. Can i get this repaired privately without going through my insurance which has a excess of £60 or can i get this done for cheaper? Or is it work going through insurance and paying the excess? Thank you!

You have no warranty, and even if you did, it would not cover the damage. A lot of insurance companies won't cover it either. But 60 pounds is probably cheap compared to screen replacement cost. Although I would be surprised if the screen is or will be your only issue. Once water has gotten into the phone (that rice trick needs to be done over at least 3 or 4 days) then all components inside the phone are liable to corrode over time and the phone will simply stop functioning or become an electrical hazard. The call is yours naturally, but for the cost of a new screen, I would recommend taking it to your local Apple Store for an out of warranty replacement. Not sure of the cost in your country.

    Cheers

Unfortunately iPhone is not waterproof. Usually phones and water do not mix and water damage is not covered by warranty. Corrosion has already started.  You should schedule a genius appointment at theApple Store to appraise the level of damages. They will offer you the best solution.

Unlikely to be worth getting it repaired, even if possible. The water ingress will have damaged the circuit board and many other components.

If you have 'house contents' insurance you may be able to claim under that policy.
