CarPlay & Volkswagen

I have just bought a volkswagen polo that has CarPlay but no steering wheel control, all controls are on the volkswagen head unit.

Prior to IOS9 release, CarPlay would only work wired with the head unit. Apple announced that CarPlay would work wirelessly with IOS9.

After installing IOS9 today, CarPlay will not work wirelessly and after contacting Apple, they informed me Bluetooth would work wirelessly (which it did before IOS9) and that CarPlay needed steering wheel control.

The instructions on the IOS9 operating system for CarPlay using an iPhone, tell you to push the 'voice' button on the steering wheel. My head unit has a physical 'voice' button, so the question for Apple is why does it not work? Is it an IOS9 software issue, head unit software issue, both head unit and IOS9 or another issue?

I am very annoyed as had I known that I needed steering wheel control, I would have bought a car with the required functionality.

so the question for Apple is why does it not work? Is it an IOS9 software issue, head unit software issue, both head unit and IOS9 or another issue?

This is a User to User community with no Apple participation so i suggest you call AppleCare in your Country and discuss with them

My collegue and I have exactly the same Polo with carplay, except that he does have the buttons on the steering wheel while I don't. Still, wireless carplay does not work on both of the polo's. I guess we'll have to wait for a system update of VW before wireless carplay is supported.

Apple advanced technical support have confirmed that they will be working with Volkswagen to resolve the issue.

I suggest if you have issues to contact apple and Volkswagen so that both company's understand that it is a wider problem and not specific to one user or car.

Well you not very helpful.

I posted my query here to see if others had and answer or had a similar problem - that is what forums are about.

Did you go into Bluetooth and add your receiver? Settings, Bluetooth, and under devices (while you're in range) your head unit should be listed. Also, you can try Settings, General, CarPlay and make sure your receiver is listed. If not, there's your issue.
