If you are using windows, first plug-in your apple device to pc. Then, go to Control Panel>Device Manager>Universal Serial Bus Controller>Apple Mobile Device USB Driver right-click and scan for hardware changes.
Hope this might works for you.

You will probably have to do for each device.

Sep 18, 2015 10:29 PM in response to henryfromlewisvilleby SnakeIsBack,★HelpfulI had this issue, and this is what solved it for me...
Goto device manager and see if you have "Apple Mobile Device USB Driver" listed under Universal Serial Bus Controllers.
I didn't, so goto portable devices section (in device manager) and see if you can see your iPad/iPhone listed. (make sure you device is plugged into computer)
Right click on the device
choose update device driver...
--browse my computer for driver software
-- Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer
-- Have disk
-- Browse to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers\
-- choose "usbaapl64.inf"
it should give you the following device driver to install "Apple Mobile Device USB Driver"
Click next to install
Once installed successfully, iTunes should recognise your device!!

Sep 23, 2015 5:51 AM in response to SnakeIsBackby henryfromlewisville,Neither of the suggestion resolved my issue. This is what i see.
- "Apple Mobile Device USB Driver" DOES show up/visible when connecting the device to PC.
- Control Panel>Hardware & Sound>Device Manager>Portable Devices [DOES NOT show up when device is connected]
Hardware Change option states i have the latest hardware and drivers.
I feel my last option maybe to remove/reload iTunes.

May 10, 2016 8:27 AM in response to henryfromlewisvilleby turingtest2,If your iOS device isn't showing in iTunes try the following:
- Open Control Panel > Device Manager
- Plug in your device
- Locate Universal Serial Bus Controllers > Apple Mobile Device USB Driver.
It is also possible the device may show under Imaging Devices, Portable Devices or Other Devices or as an MTB USB Device. - Right-click and select Update Driver Software...
- Click Browse my computer for driver software
- Browse to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers or
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers - Click Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer
- Click Apple Mobile Device USB Driver
- Click Next, then Close and exit Device Manager
For step 3 above, open the device manager. Expand any of these sections that are listed.
- Universal Serial Bus Controllers
- Imaging Devices
- Portable Devices
- Other Devices
Connect the device. You should hear the telltale sound of Windows device connection and one section should gain a new entry. That should be your device. It may not be labelled correctly at this stage. If you don't hear a noise suspect a damaged cable.
Or try If iTunes doesn‘t recognize your iPhone, iPad, or iPod - Apple Support
Failing that try a full tear down and rebuild of iTunes as set out in Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
Or lastly try rolling back to the last build of iTunes that worked for you. See iTunes installers for download links. If you're rolling back from 12.3.3.17 to 12.3.2.35, for example, then you'll also need to roll back the database in the way described in Empty/corrupt iTunes library after upgrade/crash. The tip includes suggestions for reintroducing any recent purchases so at worst you lose a few playcounts and/or a recently created playlist.
