Question

My Macbook Pro cannot verify my account

My Macbook Pro cannot verify my account when I try to set up an IMAP account. It says it cannot verify the password. My ISP gave me all the information but it still does not work. It says that the identity of the imap.real-agenda.com cannot be verified. When I click CONNECT, it keeps on asking me to enter the email. I do so, but it does not help.

My account is not from Google, Yahoo or any of these free services. It is a private address. I've followed the steps as shown by Apple, but I cannot set the account up.

Unfortunately, when I bought my laptop, the Apple people would not even try to help me at the store because they said I needed to contact my ISP in order to set email up accounts.

Try doing a manual setup.

Delete the account, then add it back. After filling in the 1st screen, hold down the option/alt key while clicking Continue. Fill in the necessary information, then click continue until all screens are filled in.

From the Mail menu bar, select

Window ▹ Connection Doctor

Click the Show Detail button. A drawer opens. Click Check Again and post the text that appears.

Anonymize any private information before posting. That means names, email addresses, contents of messages, and anything else that you don't want to make public.

Your suggestions helped me set up the account, although the SMTP appear as red, which I think means I cannot send email, only receive.

That extract doesn't show what happens when you try to authenticate to the IMAP server. You must have at least one outgoing mail server, and that doesn't show up either. Please make sure you start with an empty text drawer, then click Check Again.

In the connection Doctor window there are three SMTP accounts which were in red, not in green. They were all SMTP.REAL-AGENDA.COM. I clicked on all three of them and it seems that made them populate the mail connection doctor window with more information. Yet, the only SMTP accounts that appear are Gmail. Please take a look.

Leroy, I contacted my ISP multiple times but all he does it give me the step by step to set up the accounts, which does not solve the problem.
