Disable contact pictures in messengere

Is there a way to either disable or remove those stupid contact pictures from messenger in IOS 9? I don't use pics in contact, so way would I want them in messenger? They put initials or a blank silhouett. This is very chees. Like you would find on Android. I know who my contacts are and don't need to see a picture. This might be appealing to the younger crowd, but for an adult, I don't think so. If there isn't a way I hope they come up with one soon. As is stands now, I forgot to archive my last backup, so I can't even go back to my last OS.
