Feb 4, 2016 9:37 PM in response to gail from maineby XARGX,I Also had the same issue of not being able to backup to itunes. After a few minute, backup fails and the message said that the phone was disconnected. I replaced the cable and tried again, same thing. Then did wifi sync and I think this is when it worked.
One more note about iCloud backup (and I strongly believe this is what fixed the issue): I deleted the backup, then tried toe backup and it showed 0kb. I clicked the backup and disabled all app. Kept the smallest one with a few KBs. Backup completed, then i turned on more apps to backup and it was successful again. I kept doing this until I reached apps that has 300mb (turning them on one by one and completing a backup every time I turn on one app). The last app was whatsapp which had 1.8 GB backed up and now the whole phone backs u succefully.

Feb 4, 2016 9:53 PM in response to ubu760ububy gail from maine,What happens when you try to back up to iCloud?
Take a look at XARGX's post just above this one to see if the steps outlined will work for you to get your device to back up to iCloud.
As for the Error 54 in iTunes, here is a support article that should help:
If you see error -54 when you sync with iTunes - Apple Support
Best of luck,

Feb 4, 2016 11:43 PM in response to gail from maineby Evalas,Cuts off about the point it should be finishing, Says phone disconnected. Yes, most current version (but through Windows Vista), Only deleted iCloud... I'll be damned if I'm gonna clear it out and have this thing brick on me, so for now the hardwired backups are staying put. As for the trouble shooting, I've done everything short of staring down an Apple Genius because I already know the official stance and I don't have 8 hours to back up and restore as new. only to find out, as per this and many other 30 plus page threads, that this is on their end.
I called when this started as I have already said and had a person tell me without blinking that a 0gb backup was perfectly normal and standard. That was back in September at the beginning of pOS 9 before things were proper ****** like they are now.

Feb 4, 2016 11:53 PM in response to gail from maineby Evalas,Okay, I read earlier somewhere to try the rear USB port on the computer (which I had never done) and am happy to report that backing up to iTunes worked. I have NO IDEA why, but I'm pretty sure someone more savvy than me might have an opinion. Now to test it a couple of more times. If anyone else is getting hit with the disconnect on iTunes, at least try that.

Feb 5, 2016 3:26 AM in response to XARGXby Evalas,Okay, I followed your process of removing higher data apps. First off, only 5 or 6 apps were reporting any data at all, I turned those off and left the others alone. The backup went off without a hitch and took roughly half an hour to complete. The formerly data-less apps now suddenly had some when I went and checked and the backup itself was larger than it has been in some time (22g or so). I kept adding more and more of the ones I shut off and kept being able to back up until I hit a snag after adding one that had several hundred more mb's than the rest... the Wikipedia app. I turned the Wikipedia tab to "off" again, and tried to run another back up... hung up once, tried again, went through fine. Now obviously, this may not be the offending app for everyone, but it seems to be the case for me and I would recommend those having the back up issue, if they have that app, try turning it off, or at least aim for the ones that seem drastically larger than the rest. I won't know until when I wake up tomorrow whether or not it solved the automatic backup issue, but I'm at least back on track enough that I can get a backup if needed, and losing a back up on the offending app will not really affect me at all, worst case scenario. Thanks for your help.

Feb 5, 2016 5:47 AM in response to Evalasby XARGX,Glad my post has helped somehow.. Let me know how things go with you..
I now remember that the whatsapp that has 1.8GB to backup didn't complete manually but I left it turned on hoping that auto backup will take care of it. It did backup and successfully finish next morning.. ✌ ️

Feb 6, 2016 8:16 AM in response to leJuan5150by fialex123,Got it! Was struggling with this for a long time...
My Solution:
Make a local backup with iTunes.
Then try iCloud backup with your device still connected to your Mac.
That's it...for me at least.

Feb 9, 2016 1:52 AM in response to fialex123by mityaz,I am having an issue with ICloud back through the iTunes. I can make a backup to iCloud with device, but when I get connected to iTunes, nothing happens. It just backs up it to the computer. Tried all solutions, nothing helped (latest iTunes and OS X version)

Feb 9, 2016 4:30 AM in response to XARGXby Evalas,Okay, it hasn't backed up on its own since the last time I did it, so there's that, but my range extender went out a day or so ago, so signal is questionable. Will update this post again within a week.
