    What shows on the screen?

In OSX version later than Lion (I do not remember when it started) you will see loading bar

After your Mac locates the System Folder on your startup disk, a progress bar or spinning wheel appears on the screen. This lets you know that your Mac is reading files from the OS X System folder.

    How long is the delay?

If you go to System Preferences>Startup Disk is one selected? If not it has to search for one.

What model Mac and what is the startup disk?

    SSD?

    Fusion?

    Rotating HD?

    Hi,

    Model is A1347, 2.5/2X2GB/500/AP.

Nothing is on the screen, it's black for about 20-30 seconds - no loading bar.  There is only one Startup Disk, the OS X 10.10.5,

I tried clicking on it, the computer shut off & there was this white circle/jagged arrow floating on the black screen & it didn't restart, so

after a few minutes I shut it off and started it again - it did the same thing as B4 and took time for anything to appear on the screen.

Sorry I'm not computer savvy enough to know what SSD, Fusion & Rotating HD - it was the basic $499. sale model.

    Any of these screens:

    Does the Mac eventually bootup?

Model is A1347 is not definite since Apple assigned that one model number for all Minis from 2010 to the present/current 2014

It's 2014 - the screen goes from black straight to my desk top with no apple or spinning wheel.

My old one that I had to replace that didn't have that black window was a 2011.

It can't be a 2014 mac Mini since those shipped with Yosemite and will not run an earlier version

I put in the serial # per your link instructions above, and this is what came up:

    Mac mini (Late 2014)

    Serial Number:

    C0*********1HV

I bought the computer, brought it home and a tech guy plugged in the plugs - it's working fine, the only thing is I didn't expect an all black screen

when I turn it on, no apple or loading bar.
