Q: Apple TV keeps crashing NON-STOP!!!

We use Apple TV for all our TV watching in all rooms.  We bought them at separate times, but they are the same model.  We have Apple TV Software 6.2.1 and Resolution 720p.

Our Netflix and Hulu keeps crashing 3-4 times per show, and our music app crashes when playing songs, whether I am streaming it using Airplay from my iPhone or using the AppleTV app.

Our Apple TV just crashes and crashes and crashes!!!!!  YES!  I have restarted the Apple TV devices.  YES! I have unplugged the modem and router and plugged them back in (in the proper sequence).  YES!  Our wifi speed is fast enough: over 60 Mbs download & 15 Mbs upload.  YES!  I have reset our ALL of our Apple TV devices to factory settings and set them back up again as new.  I have done ALL of the usual advice for fixing the problem.

We are avid Apple fans but are getting sick of the constant crashing.  We can't get through one show without having it crash at least once.

Mine is 90mb/s as well. So ill reset modem but I don't think that is the issue. It only happens when I'm surfing around not while I'm watching video. It has happened in multiple apps as well.

I took my ATV device to work and hooked it up to the network, I had the exact same problem I have been having. So that rules out the network being the cause. It was still disconnecting on non-Apple store purchased content. It has even become much worse since the release of the new ATV4. My last option is to take it to the Apple store.

I put my new ATV4 in the main room and my old ATV2 in the bedroom.  The older ATVs are now outdated devices that are not backward compatible with new software. I keep my ATV2 working by doing a harmless soft reboot (reset holding down buton + menu for six seconds) prior to watching each Netflix movie stream, otherwise it crashes into an incomplete reboot that does not clear the buffer as well.   My suspicion is that the older ATVs overload  the device and crash because they cannot update to the new software versions and so their memory gets overloaded by the updated Apps. geared toward the newer hardware.  I have no problems with ATV4.

I think my problem is the appltv4 itself. Im going to exchange it next week when I can. I can't find any similar problems with anyone with the new Appletv4. I'll keep trying for another week then take back.

I have had the same issue and finally got to fix/stop the issue. I suspected this issue might have been caused by the video settings so I changed it to best for my old Apple TV and the LCD TV since my living room 3rd ten Apple TV and 1080P LED screen don't have the issue at all.

    Settings/Audio&Video/TV Resolution and I changed Auto to 720P 60z.

    Hope this works.

I tried it and unfortunately it did not help. My ATV was set on Best. I went and tried to watch an episode of Daredevil on Netflix. The ATV reset just after the Marvel logo went away in the opening credits. I changed the setting to 720 and tried again with Daredevil. The exact same thing happened in the exact same place. When the Marvel logo went away in the opening credits my ATV reset.

I finally was able to fix the problem. After trying new cables, new ports, verifying the integrity of my network speed, a second network, changing the resolution setting to 720 60 mh, and endless variations of resetting the device,,, I gave up and bought the new ATV4. The new device works absolutely fine and did not reset on any of the typical culprits.

If Apple did do some update that made the ATV 2nd Gen unusable I wish they would admit it and offer discounts so that users could buy the new updated device.

Why suffer - you can get an ATV3 on eBay for $50 - that might

let you at least isolate the problem to your internet service - and

even re-sell it if the tv isn't the problem. Good luck, Tom

    Not "suffering."

Upgraded from an ATV3, which was working perfectly. EVERYTHING (configuration & cords) was the same, just swapped back and forth a number of times to isolate. NO problems with ATV3 - ONLY ATV4 crashing.

Had the same issue for month. 100% not a network problem. This is the solution that fixed my ATV

If your problem persists get yourself a micro USB cable (sold separately), you can restore your Apple TV from iTunes:

        1.    Remove ALL cables from Apple TV. (if you don't you will not see Apple TV in the iTunes Source list)

        2.    Connect the micro USB cable to the Apple TV and to your computer.

        3.    Reconnect the power cable (only for Apple TV 3)

        4.    Open iTunes.

        5.    Select your Apple TV in the Devices list, and then click Restore.

(You may already have a micro USB cable if you have a camera or other digital device)

This has been happening to my six ATVs.  Yes, that's right. six.  The embedded Netflix on my smart tv doesn't behave this way.  This is an Apple problem.  When is Apple going to do the right thing?  WHEN?  This is bs.  They've forgotten about the my ATVs because they sold a new POS version and will probably soon forget that one too.  That's how this works.  No one cares about doing things right anymore.  All about the profits.  F U Apple and the rest of the world that we lazy consumers allow to behave this way.  Maybe I have "good ole day" syndrome but it seems like Apple used to create things that they could be proud of...  Now all they do is shelter profits in other countries to avoid taxes.

I Have 4 ATVs (gen 2&3 and 2 gen 4) and have not experienced the issue your reporting on any of my devices. For the record, Apple is not here this is a user community. But if you want to rant Apple is not going to hear it unless you send them feedback directly http://www.apple.com/feedback/

Same issue here since today (worked great for a week). Not been able to resolve yet but I can share some info, the built in apps works greats and the non Apple third part doesn't. That happend in some iOS version of iPhone when the Apple ID had been changed so it's clear that it's a thirt part and Apple ID related issue.

Someone tried to use an other Apple ID ?
