Q: Where is the mute button in the new iPad Mini 4?

I've just received my new iPad Mini 4 WiFi+4G and I've just realized that there is no mute button (side button). So, I ask myself how to rapidly mute or lock rotation.

Just like the iPad Air 2, there is no hardware mute button.

It's functions have been moved to Control Center (tap-drag up from just above the Home Button).

TThere is a small button above the volume buttons and you just slide it down, you will see a red dot, and the screen shows its been muted.

Not on the iPad Air 2 or the mini 4. The hardware buttons have been removed from these newer devices.

I don't have the 4 yet, and not sure I really want to actually.

It does alarm me when Apple things removing something is better for the consumer, specially when the device has always had it.

If a customer has gone from an iPhone to also have an iPad, they are used to that button.

So sitting in that boardroom at Apple and someone saying "I know, let's take that button away from them, so they have to do it in the settings options" does seem rather odd to me.

My guess is that the thickness of the new one, doesn't allow to "fit" the button or the internals of it, into the new casing.

The other reason I am unsure about switching, is because it means I have to get a new case for it, and I rather like my case!

For a system that's a little bit quicker, a mm thinner, and actually a bit taller... no, I don't think it's worth it.

If you have an iPad Air, and want something smaller, then yes, I bet it would be a brilliant move.  Partly coz you are already use that loss of the mute switch.

You don't have to do it in setting options. The Air 2 and Mini 4 have a sixth icon in the Control Center so mute and lock rotation are always available.

Oh, great. So now i have to pull the ipad out of the murse, open the case, unlock it, swipe up and then i can finally mute it!

And why would i need the volume buttons so handy anyways? Whenever i need the volume buttons, that's when i'm using the iPad, so i can quickly swipe up and use control center and turn up or down the volume. I would trade volume for mute any time... Or keep both functionality, like hold the volume up button for 3 seconds to mute/unmute, for example. So no excuse for being able to make it thinner, in my opinion.

There is no mute button on the ipad mini 4, as apple wanted to make the ipad Thinner than the previous models. although the ipad mini 4 has a do not disturb and a mute button in the control centre.

    hope this was helpful,
