Can't refresh right now

I have an iPhone 6 running iOS 9. I have a weird issue with the apple news app, in that it won't load content while on cellular data. I have already checked my settings and the app is set to allow cellular data, and the general cellular data settings are set up correctly as well. Content from other apps, including Safari and Mail work on cellular data just fine. It's just Apple News.


Aone seeing a similar issue?

Same issue here. Upgraded my iPhone 6plus to iOS 9 and News App does not get updated news over cellular network.

I Also have a different iPhone 6plus with the same issue, reset the phone back to factory settings and with just the base iOS 9 installed does not update over cellular network and also does not refresh in background over wifi.

Can't refresh right now.

There may be a problem with the server or network. Please try again later.


Contacted AppleCare and they elevated the call to 2nd tier and I was told to do the usual, which I had already done.

Background App Refresh -- ON

Cellular Data -- ON

Made sure Cellular data was enabled for News App


Reset Network Settings

Reset iPhone back to factory settings

Try the app before restoring my backup

(Notes, the first update to iOS 9 was done over iTunes, the second time it was done OTA)


Then it was escalated to an engineer, and we play the waiting game now...

Sorry for the brief response earlier.

  1. Go to settings
  2. click on icloud
  3. In the icloud section Toggle the news off
  4. it will prompt you to "keep on phone" or "delete from phone". I deleted from phone.


Once I deleted it from phone, I turned back on and the news worked on cellular. I have an iphone 5s and an ipad mini "wifi". I didnt do these step for the ipad since it is wifi only. I am not sure if this info will affect your results but the steps above worked for me.
