Q: After ios9 update my emails with attachments won't open and say "message not yet downloaded from server". They were there previously. How do I get them back?

All my email attachments are unopenableafter the ios9 upgrade. Anyone else with this issue?  How do I get them back?  The emails just say message not yet downloaded from server.

Google Maps is the best for research, walking, bicycling and public transportation, but Waze beats it for vehicle navigation; its traffic data is crowd sourced, and it reroutes while enroute based on real time information. And the team that maintains it is responsive. I reported an error earlier this year. A volunteer map editor contacted me, discussed what the problem was, and released an update within a week. It also provides users ("Wazers") a way to report temporary issues, such as streets temporarily closed, lane blockages, potholes, gas prices, police radar (one state police agency tried to get Waze banned), red light cameras...

But we're really getting off-topic now!

Yes Lawrence while it may be off topic it is also very interesting.  I was not aware of Waze so thank you for the input.

This topic is about 'this message has not been downloaded from the server" and missing attachments. I use both IMAP and Exchange. Before the 9th of October, the release in Belgium from the iPhone 6s , I had the same problems after updating to iOS 9 with my mails as described in this topic, on both accounts. See my earlier post. But since a week everything is fine. I was thinking all the time, what did I change? Here's what I changed. I bought a iPhone 6s. Then I made a complete new backup in iTunes (although I have also one in the cloud). I configured the 6s as a new phone first and installed the backup on my new iPhone 6s. Since then, both problems disappeared. I did not change anything on the configuration of the iPhone mail app. Don't know if this can help but maybe it is worth the try. Anyway it is strange that everything works perfect on the new phone. In mean time friends with the iPhone 6 still have these problems, even with an IMAP or Exchange configuration. Someone could maybe try the same trick. Backup first in iTunes, empty the phone, configure as a new one and replace the backup to it?

Hi Neil, I'm also in the UK and have this problem with all of my 8 POP accounts. I have had 4 chats and 3 conversations with Apple first tier support over the past 3 weeks, and am now in communication with 2 second tier support people. So far nobody has been able to give me a satisfactory answer as to when (or if) this problem will be fixed. IMAP is not an option for me, for many reasons, and as I use the Share feature often, neither is using a 3rd party mail app. I am seriously considering returning my 6S Plus and getting a used 6 Plus running iOS8. For me this "upgrade" has been a disaster.

Its been a disaster for me too. I'm in New Zealand and downgraded d a $1,500 iPhone 6 plus to iOS9 and have lost all my saved business emails and attachments. I specifically have this phone to have those available and stored for when I am not in my office. I would upgrade to iOS8, but it doesn't seem to be an option, so I am out in the cold really.

Can I get instructions for doing this. I downloaded the my mail app but unsure how to add my others. Was  easy enough in apple mail but when I selected OTHER. It took me to a Microsoft signup page. i don't want to sign up to Microsoft. I use 'exchange' I think for my work email so I guess I select that but my personal one is Telstra BigPond and I can't remember how I set it up which I thought was easy at the time.

Bottom  line this needs to be fixed and fast.  The phone is suppose to make business run smoothly; was this upgrade not tested prior to putting it out there?  I have an iPhone 5 s, IMac and iPad 4 th generation.  Apple should perhaps offer  all customers the opportunity to trade in their product for a new or equivalent.,Or perhaps send credit vouchers to use online or at the stores; which may actually help keep the customers interested in the Apple products.   Or they should at least offer free support since the customers didn't cause this nightmare.  Last and best option would be to double customers cloud space as a form of compensation so there would be more space to store our emails and contacts.

I have been downloading email on multiple devices for several years now.  Only IOS 9 has made this an issue.

I read in the latest edition of MacRumors that Apple are about to release an update to El Capitan that "will fix several issues with Mail regarding missing server information and a bug that prevents the display of messages and mailboxes within the App". Now, I realise that this relates to El Capitan and not to iOS9, but I wonder if the two are linked, or at least gives us hope that Apple recognise that there is a Mail issue and will fix it directly in iOS9. Here's hoping as the current situation is a disaster. Fingers crossed!!

Seems like Apple developers screwed up really badly with this. I lost my important e-mails because of this.

This is really poor quality. I probably should try Android phone next time.

I Have reported on this forum several times now. In the past few days l have been to two Apple stores to explain and show them the message gets after down loading emails on my iPhone. Guess what they all advised that they not heard about this problem and could not offer a solution, other than delete the effective pop 3 accounts and reset, of which l have already done so seveal times.

l Have also phoned apple support 3 times now where they were no help and never came across this problem, l did advise operator their are many reporting this problem on this forum. Only to be told Apple engineers don't read these forums.  Whilst we all can complain amongst our selves the only way this will get resolved if at all, is by all going to their Apple  Stores and phoning Apple support and using their web based feed back site no matter what part the world you live.

it might be a idea if we all reported this issue to both national newspapers and televation news this would a sure way to get Apples attention and get them to resolve this problem. They cannot afford bad publicity, as currently they seem to be not acknowledging the problem exists.  I just wonder how many are effected with this problem, as l have not personally come across anyone in the uk using pop 3 whom is effected. Makes me wonder if it's just a small minority world wide. Hence why no action from Apple to now.

IN the mean time l am using alta email app as alternative which works ok, thanks to a recommendation on this forum.

    Hi Neil,

Just to let you know that I'm from the UK and I have a mixture of POP3 and IMAP email accounts.

None of my POP3 accounts are working correctly since configuring them on my iPhone 6S+ (IOS 9)

I also have an iPhone 6+ which is still running IOS 8 and there are no problems whatsoever with POP3 on that phone.

I suspect Apple do know about the issue.

They will want to keep it as low profile as possible as it is obviously going to be to their great detriment when the fix surfaces and draws even greater attention to what is already a very serious problem.

People are already talking about taking out lawsuits against the company for the loss of trade caused by important emails being lost for good during the whole debacle.

The best way to put Apple on notice remains use of their feedback link: http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone

It's not out of character for Apple not to acknowledge an issue before they have it under control; ie being ready to release a fix.  I concur that exposure in newspaper/tv media should get their attention and the same goes for presence on social networks.  My experience has been that discussion in Apple Stores is pretty much a non-starter  and the same for phoning Apple Support unless you can get to a senior level tech (easier said than done).
