I find POP3 superior security because after messages are removed from the server the data is not subject to being compromised if the server was ever hacked.  My phone is set to never remove messages from the server however the phone is not my primary device for email.   My MacBook Pro removes messages from the server after retrieval and that device is backed up twice daily to external drives that are kept both on and off premises so I have all of the data and redundancy.  An IMAP server saving sent mail on the server is of no consequence to me because that mail is preserved via the daily backup of my laptop.

For folks who rely primarily on an iOS device for email the bug in iOS9 is a HUGE headache.  Hopefully iOS9.2 will cure that.

It would be nice if that were true, however, your ISP keeps your email forever, even if you delete it from the server. It is just archived, and accessible to law enforcement, NSA, CIA, and any hacker who breaches the server. As Hillary Clinton and Leon Panetta found out.

It is true because we do not use our ISP for email.  We host our own POP3 mail server  as well as our DNS sever both in house.  Our mail never gets to the ISP's server.

Mr Finch, on several occasions throughout the course of this thread you have wrote that:

    - Apple has responded to reports of this bug and said they will fix it.

    - you will see that Apple has indicated that they know it is a problem and that they are working on a fix for it.

You also gave a commitment to user Serguei. I wonder if you would be so kind as to let those of that do read this thread, actually where this “response / indication” is. Despite reading this thread and many others, I have yet to see this acknowledgement on this forum or anywhere else.

One major complaint from many of the customers suffering from this not so insignificant “bug” is that they’ve heard nothing from Apple.

    A shared sentiment.

Apple sold me products that would handle my email in the manner which I choose to (POP). Now through "forcing" their IOS9 s/w) update on me, they have either intentionally or inadvertently changed / withdrawn that functionality. (Yes, I know I have to physically push the button that says install, but really do we have a choice?)

What's more, it appears they have failed to comment publically either way on an fundamental issue which is affects many users.

    The only upsides are:

    - those people suffering from the issue who have installed the 9.2 beta seem to have gone quiet - maybe it is fixed?

    - users who initally denied there was an issue, also seem to have stopped posting to this and other threads concerning this bug

AAnother odd thing. Not everyone has this issue with Pop3. I just compared settings with a friend with the same ISP.  identical setup except for using port 25. her email works perfectly

Similar device capacity/percentage free? Same IOS?

I suggest that your friend doesn't play around with her settings then - lucky lady.

That's not surprising to hear since this bug seems to show little uniformity in how it impacts different users/devices.  I find certain text only messages disappear from my Inbox, Sent and Trash folders within only hours, while others remain on the device for a month or longer in those same mailboxes.  I've also noticed that any message containing a hyperlink remains on the device irrespective of whether the balance of the message is text only or it includes an attached file.

That's an interesting observation. On that premise, forwarding any email back to the original mailbox, or to one specifically set up for the purpose of retention, but just adding any old hyperlink should cause the new message to remain intact? I'll give that a go...

I have a telephone assurance from a representative in the executive office:

-They are aware of the problem at the senior level.

-It has definitely been fixed in the recent (2nd letter of the Greek alphabet) software release.

-It will be fixed in the public software release to come out  "no later than the end of the year, perhaps earlier".

-There may be no announcement that the issue has been fixed and possibly no acknowledgement that it ever existed.

    No further information provided.

That's because they don't want to draw attention to the complete and utter ****-up that they made.

Don't get your hopes up with the "Executive Office"  I have spoken & communicated with 3 of them.  They all are very nice and pleasant.  They have even put me in touch with a couple of their engineers.  The engineers admit to vaguely hearing that there is a problem and that Apple is working on it.  That's it.  I guess if you are at a higher level like Lawrence Finch they might reveal more.

Personally, I have given starting case tickets and complaining directly to them because the fix will either happen or not.

What is even more depressing is that major media outlets continue to play up Apple's new products without a mention of the iOS9 problems.

    Yes, thank you peter144a.

What I can't believe is that apple are churning out millions of iPad Pro's to unsuspecting customers all with this inherent problem.

A problem that they are fully aware of.

Fancy not even making your customers aware of what they're buying!!!!!!

Yes, their flagship model iPad designed to DELETE ALL YOUR EMAILS FOR GOOD since year dot and render them unrecoverable.

I'm experiencing the same problems and this is unacceptable!

I don't think that such a buggy iOS 9 would have been released to Apple customers under Steve! The email issue is one of the worst, but that's unfortunately not the only problem.

As a loyal Apple customer, please don't let me wait much longer for a fix.
