Q: After ios9 update my emails with attachments won't open and say "message not yet downloaded from server". They were there previously. How do I get them back?

Thanks for taking time to post this.  You've essentially conveyed Andreas' entire post. (I copied and dropped that post into Google Translator).

I'm seeing better performance.  Devise is an iPhone 4S running iOS9.2 and using POP3 mail.

In any beta test the number of releases is not known until a relatively clean version is identified. You don't know if there will be a b5 until b4 has been used for a few weeks. So the final GA release will always be the last beta version, and there will always be a delay between the time that last beta version is published and the GA is published."

Stop apologising for this complete **** up !!

I don't see anything in my post that was an apology. I was explaining why its important to test a fix before it is released to 700 million users. And why that testing takes more time than a few microseconds.

The irony is this thread started with people saying; "Why doesn't Apple test this stuff?", and now we're at your post that says "Apple shouldn't test this stuff, they should release it untested." Appreciate the irony?

No Mr Finch, I am all in favour of testing. Its indeed how these things should properly be done.

But the irony is lost on you. your post pontificates about all the testing that needs to be done

while the whole problem could have been avoided if proper testing HAD actually been done.

    Appreciate the irony?

    WT*!

So I clear out the several hundred messages from Trash (POP account) folder. Close the lid on the iPad, have dinner and go watch a movie. Come back and hey presto - all the messages are back in the Trash folder. How? Where the **** has it retrieved them from? They are not on the the server.

So I 'delete all' again from Trash folder, meantime the spinning wheel of death is going crazy.

I guess it's another Apple Support call tomorrow.

Now that's pretty crazy - sounds like your iPad is trapped in the movie 'Ground Hog Day'

Well, now I know why things take tiime. Nevertheless Apple could have churned out 9.2 much earlier and avoided the loss of millions of e-mails. I still find it strange that beta-testers get no notification that they are now on the final version.

Apple cannot see into the future, so they don't know it's the final version until it has been tested for a few weeks.

Well, it's now another 24 hours later for me (here in Australia) and so far, everything looks to be working as I expect it would. I will keep you posted over the next few days

Just for your information, for my testing, I downloaded everything to my iPad and iPhone, both of which are set to leave the message on the server. Then I downloaded everything to my iMac which I have reset to delete messages from the server. If I then look at my iPad and iPhone, everything is still there, in all folders - Inbox, Sent & Rubbish, both with and without Airplane mode engaged. So, I am very encouraged. Note too that I am only working with post 9.2 emails; everything before then could be polluted in one way another so the only fair way to test the update, is with post update material.

None on this excuses Apples arrogant, unconscionable conduct in allowing their customers to suffer in the way they have. The bug should never have made it through to 9.0, and at the very least, should have been dealt with promptly in 9.1. To have allowed it to drag on for so long, doing the physical and emotional damage it did, is border line criminal.

FYI on the article.  I have not updated yet, but sounds like it is worth doing so.  Thanks everyone for all the updates and ongoing assistance.

i would love to know where the author gets the idea that "gone on record on multiple occasions in three months since the release of iOS 9" .

Because amongst others, I haven't seen anything. In fact, that's one of the biggest complaints of many on this thread and others - Apple's silence.

    I'm pretty sure that the Apple Devotees that "haunt" these threads would have been only to happy to ram it down our throats if they had also access to these mysterious "gone on record on multiple occasions in three months since the release of iOS 9" , but again nothing, despite being asked on "multiple occasions". But nothing, danada, zilch. Despite being very vocal. In fact I can't count the number of times Apple Devottees have quoted;

"it's not Apple policy to comment on issues"

If you do update, be aware there are still issues.

Possibly you could click on the links in the article that take you to the previous articles where the author is sharing the "on the record" information?

    Cheers,

    Ground Hog Day indeed...

    So for the 3rd time...

    1) Clear out the several hundred messages from Trash folder (both pre&post 9,2 email). I clear out the other folders too, (Inbox, Sent) - there's nothing. I manually check the server, there's nothing there. (Just as it should be)

    2) Close the Mail APP and shut the lid on the iPad, plug it into a power supply

    3) 10 hours later and check the Inbox - a few messages. Check the Trash folder - nothing. Maybe, maybe.

    4) Inbox - read the messages and delete them

    5) Back to Trash and now it full again with several hundred messages all the way back to start November!

Where is the device "recovering" these messages from? They don't exist anywhere.

Yes, several articles all by him. Ah, that's what's meant by Apple "going on record".  I'll be sure to 'follow' said journalist everytime I want hot news about one of the largest tech companies.

As per my previous message I believe the mail app still has issues.

    * If I left-drag on a new email which has just arrived in my inbox to delete it (but without actually opening it first) and then go to my trash bin, that email is reporting "this message has not been downloaded from the server".

Previously that full email message would be available to read in the trash bin to enable me to make the decision whether I really do want to delete it for good or not.

so after installing lastest "security update" for OSX yesterday - iTunes is now ****** and play play any movie/tv show content. See: iTunes 12.3.1.23 video playback not working

This is beyond a joke Apple.

Seems like Apple should get their own folks back in the classroom and teach them coding!

    Apologies for thread hijack.
