iOS 9 Siri no longer beeps, just vibrates.

Hopefully someone can help me here: List of issues I'm having, I have the 6s 128gb version running IOS 9.01 (updated the other day) just bought it a few days ago. Love the phone love my iPad mini 4 I got too with it on the Verizon promo, but having some small yet annoying issues that are eating my OCD alive!! - Whether the side switch is set to on or off I too get no beep or vibrate not even a small vibrate when long holding Siri. Only get the beep when saying "Hey Siri" -the next issue I am having is with "Hey Siri," personally I think it still needs some kinks worked out. The issue I'm having is when I am driving or whatever I may be doing where i just can't look at the phone for long (thinking this might be a safety feature while driving which is great) and I say "Hey Siri call John Doe" it will always place the call on speaker which is kind of annoying. Now if I hold the button and say "Siri call John Doe" it will just place a normal hold to your ear call. I saw somewhere that if you say Hey Siri and wait for her to say "how can I help you" it will place a normal call with no speaker. -Last but not least is another Hey Siri issue. Some things I want to ask are private or I just don't want anyone around me hearing it, the raise to talk seems to be gone. If I hold the phone to my ear and say "Hey Siri" my ears start ringing because it still comes through the loud speaker and not the ear piece. Am I doing something wrong? Cuz I could swear I raised the phone to my ear the other day and said "Hey Siri" and it did it quietly like the "raise to talk" option used too.

Also anyone have some choppiness to their new 6s which I think is mostly due to iOS 9 (&9.01).? I'm hopping update 9.1 will fix these small but useful issues. Thanks for your time guys! I'm new here so please go easy on me lol, also owned a 4s for like 3-4 years so all these new A chips are exciting but so fast and new to me.

That turns vibration off for every setting in the phone...in other words what Celtic is saying actually disables the vibrate feature when switching the side button to silent. So yes it lets it beep but at the expense of disabling every vibrate Feature for the phone. It literally says it under the "vibration" on/off button in the Vibration settings

When I got my iPhone 6s i asked Siri why I couldn't her her beep when I asked a question. She answered something like, "you don't need to hear a beep, just start talking." I haven't been able to get it to repeat that to get the exact wording, but I noticed there is no longer a delay. I used to have to wait for the beep to begin talking, now I can just start when I press the button and it hears it all.

Great insight! I'm seeing the same behavior with my iPhone 5s, Siri starts recording immediately. Maybe this is just one of those changes where it makes sense if you start out using Siri with this behavoir, but for those of us used to waiting for the beep, it doesn't feel intuitive and we don't know when to talk because the beep was used to indicate when you could start

Do you know if there is a way to turn the beeps back on and still have vibration? My son is visually impaired and needs both the beeps and the vibration to navigate with Siri. He can't have Hey Siri on because voice over activates it constantly.

My son is blind and relies on the beeps and vibration. I can't believe someone in accessibility didn't think of this before changing it.

Try this:

Settings > General > Accessibility > Vibration ==> set to OFF (this will return the beep)

Settings > Sounds ==> set "Vibrate on Ring/Silent" to ON (this will let you maintain the vibration behaviors in spite of the beep being back)

I do think the concerns stated are legitimate. The vibrate in Accessibility warns you that vibrate will now be turned off for everything, which is why I didn't try that initially. I'm happy to have Siri responding audibly again with 2 beeps when I push the home button since that indicates she's ready without my having to look at the phone. But I'm wondering what other vibrate feature I'll be unaware I'm missing. It's not just Apple apps that use the vibrate, CeticPaddy.

My Vibrate on Ring/Silent were already on. My "fix" for iOS9 is the Accessibility vibrate OFF, but I hope it doesn't affect anything else.

I understand how it works. My advice was for those that inexplicably have some need to hear the beeps when pressing the home button...despite the fact that it vibrates when doing so using the normal settings.

I understand your point, but I don't think you understand mine.

Here is a scenario that I experience where vibration is not enough to indicate Siri is ready.

I use my iPhone to time gardening tasks quite often. I am wearing heavy gardening gloves. I can't feel the phone vibrate through the gloves. I can pick up the phone, push the home button, hear the two beeps and tell Siri to time my watering or weeding session without even looking at the screen.

And I agree with others that it is a kludge to change Siri's behavior by changing an Accessibility setting. And having the surprise of your phone changing behavior just because you upgrade to a new OS should be indicated in a release note. If you look for articles relating to Siri and this issue, there are still some online business sources saying Siri should respond audibly. I haven't been able to find anything official from Apple about Siri's new behavior other than her own response.

Q: "Siri, why don't you beep anymore"

A: "it's more peaceful this way...you can just press the button and start talking"

This action DID bring back "Siri's Beeps" however, in this configuration, I DO NOT have any Vibration. I need a solution where I can have both (like I used to have before the iOS 9 update).

This issue is on my iPhone 4S running iOS 9.0.2

No issues on iPad 3 running iOS 9.0.2

No issues on iPad Air 2 running iOS 9.0.2
