Q: iOS 9 wifi connectivity problems

I have two typically frequented wireless networks.  The network at my house, and the network at my university.  My personal network is encrypted using WPA2-Personal over both 2.4GHz, and 5GHz via 802.11ac.  My university uses WPA2-Enterprise over a similar protocol.  After updating to iOS 9, neither my iPhone 6 plus, nor iPad Air 2 can consistently connect to the university's wireless network.  I noticed that resetting the network settings temporarily solved the problem on my iPhone, and it was able to connect for a few hours; but has never solved the problem on my iPad.  When I left for about an hour, and came back to the university, my iPhone again could not connect to the internet; and my iPad following suit.  Two outcomes are occurring: either after the encryption key is submitted, the iPhone doesn't acknowledge anything besides asking for the encryption key again; or it says incorrect passcode.  It would appear as though the encryption key handoff is either timing out, or incompatible with the network. Most likely, iOS 9 has inadvertently lost support for specific types of 802.11x networks, or it's simply a bug.

 

Note:

  • I have confirmed the encryption key by disconnecting, and reconnecting on my MacBook Pro: to rule out the possibility the passphrase has changed.
  • Re-Booted both devices
  • Cycled Wifi (turned off, and back on)
  • Reset the network settings on both devices.
  • Soft-Reset (Holding down the power and home buttons) on both devices.

 

Because both devices had trouble simultaneously it is hardly likely that it is a device-specific issue - which rules out a factory reset.

 

I have read similar problems with other people on the support forums.  Hopefully Apple can patch this issue with a quick iOS 9.0.1 before the release of iOS 9.1.  I'd like to use my wifi at my school

    I Will love and praise your name forever if you could solve this problem for me. Since I've downloaded IOS 9, I have been unable to make connections to certain websites I frequent using SAFARI browser, but not all. Some websites I get to with no problem, but some start to connect then stall and I never reach connection. I tried turning off Bluetooth, I tried clearing History, but I've run out of suggestions.

     

    AS a side note, these websites connect when I use Chrome as my browser instead of Safari.  I was hoping the 9.0.1 update would solve my problems but didn't.  Does anyone have any suggestions for me to try?  Thanks in advance.

    Because I could not see an earlier post I made, I'm trying this again. Forgive me if it shows up twice.

     

    Well, count me in as being very saddened by downloading IOS 9. Like others here, I can no longer get a connection to some Safari websites. It stalls out!

     

    I Have tried several of the suggestions here to no avail. For some reason, my problems only affect Safari because I can make connection using Chrome browser.

     

    TUrning off Bluetooth didn't work. Resetting network settings didn't work. Removing history and data didn't work.

     

    IM hoping Apple comes out with 9.0.2 update soon.  Does anyone know what toll free number I could call to talk to someone from Apple?  I guess I can hunt this down myself. As you can tell, I'm frustrated. This should not happen because of a Soft wear update. It's an update, not a downdate.

    No. You have to download these Apps. There are several out there. If you didn't download one, you won't have it on your device. Therefore this fix I posted will not be of help to you. I wish you luck. Let us all know if you do manage to fix things.

    I'd like to add to this...  BTW - I also reported this as part of the Public Beta program... And still have not seen it resolved

     

    If SSID = Hidden (not broadcasted)--> Wi-Fi on iPhone 5s will not connect

     

    Connection requires a proxy server, this is a corporate network or other approach is WPA2 Enterprise connection...

     

    Bottom-line....  If you have a non-broadcasted SSID Wi-Fi network iOS 9 does not connect!  This is such a rudimentary thing from a Wi-Fi perspective that I am really shocked.

    My problem is not connecting, as i can connect "when close" to my main computer that has the router / wireless wifi connection.

    If i go into the next room, ( Which prior to 9.0 was never a issue i loose the connection).

     

    Prior to 9.0   i could go anyplace in and outside of the house and have a connection, now its limited to a couple of rooms.

    This is only an issue with my Ipad md786ll/a , my iPhone 5 doesn't have the problem.

    currently using 9.0.1 (13A404)

    I have an iPad Mini 2 purchased this year. I was doing fine until the IOS 9 update. I have a password protected WiFi network connected to a broadband cable router. My iPad started to download a site then disconnected, when I restarted it went to the same site and disconnected, the cycle continued for some time. Trying different sites I was able to get through to some, yet had problems with unexpected random disconnections or failure to connect for more than a couple of seconds. I set aside my iPad and went to use my PC. It performs flawlessly on my network. I got the 9.01 update. At first the disconnection problem was dormant, then it started up again within hours of me thinking everything was fixed. I rebooted. I reset the network connections. Still no good. I need to rely on my iPad for WiFi network connections where there is no back-up PC, yet I cannot rely on my iPad.

    Okay, here's another update: I just got my iPhone 6s plus a few days ago, on the 25th.  I restored from a recent backup of my old iPhone 6 plus, and this morning I've had a chance to check on the issue.  The iPhone 6s plus like the iPhone 6 plus WILL NOT connect with iOS 9.0 or iOS 9.0.1 to a wireless network encrypted with WPA2-Enterprise / 802.11x.  The issue with my iPad Air 2 also has not changed.

    My home WiFi is working but my 5s always picked up WiFi at my gym and at my coffee shop.  Since iOS9 - nothing.  It is not working at all.  Local Cablevision optimum Wifi - nothing.

     

    I've done reset - soft and hard. Nothing.

     

    (It is also draining my battery much faster - and I had to delete tons of music and photos to load it.)

    Well, I tried reaching out to the community for an answer and no one replied. So what is my new avenue to seek assistance?  Is there a toll free number I can call or what do you recommend when no one has been able to provide the assistance?  Thanks.

    Looks like from reading the beta release notes this was broken intentionally to increase security.  We need to recreate our free radium certificates at a higher bit rate (2048).

    We upgraded to the latest Free Radius and re-created the x.509 certs (2048).  Employees can now connect their iOS 9 devices here at the office.

    Hi @ all.

    I am also suffering from that WIFI stuff.

    Last saturday I got my new 6s 128GB. Let me tell you guys my Story. I have an iPad 3 (iOS 9.0.1.) which works fine in my Wifi.

    My old 5s with iOS 9.0.1. also works fine with my wifi.I made a backup with iTunes of my 5s.

    Then I started my new 6s the first time. The device was installed quickly and I restored my fresh backup to the new iphone.

    I installed iOS 9.01. on the new iphone.

    Then the Problems got started: I was able to connect my wifi, but the phone always lose the Connection. It was like this: connect - disconnect - connect -

    disconnect... sometimes it keeps the Connection 20 minutes, then loosing it again. Really mad.

    I tried everything: ignore Network, restore Network Settings, restarting device and router... hide and broadcast my ssid... nothing worked.

    Btw. all other devices in my wifi always worked fine: mac, ipad, TV, Apple TV, iphone 5s...

    So after using my brandnew iphone 6s only 1 day I have sent it to apple for a repair case..... not really the best start.

    I ran into a similar issue with WPA2 Enterprise and upgrading the certificates with 2048 bit key sizes resolved it for me too.

    I am not an IT specialist but only a consumer with a "bit" knowledge... :-(

    I have a WPA2 protected Network but not an WPA2-enterprise one.

    How can I Change any certificates? But at this Moment I cannot do anything at all because I do not have my phone back yet.

    I hope it will return soon and work then. It was picked up monday by UPS and arrived last night at apple Service centre. Does anybody know

    how Long it usually take to Change / repair an iphone? really sad...brand new 2 days old 6s........
