Q: Where are the advance rewind controls for Podcasts in ios9?

If you are a serious listener of speech content in podcasts do not upgrade to ios9.  It appears the advance or rewind controls have been removed.  I checked to see if there is an option somewhere to make it show, but nothing in settings.  Unfortunately I do not have a good backup nor the will to go back.  I am looking now for other podcast apps that still have this feature.  When driving it is difficult to hold and slide left or right.  For long episodes the slightest move will advance minutes instead of seconds. It was so easy to tap left or right without even looking.  Very often I like to hear again certain passages, tapping left a couple of times was quite easy during commute. I find the decision to remove such useful feature very disappointing.  I am trying now Overcast but it is not the same.  What a shame.

Like nearly everyone else in this thread, it took me while to locate the advanced controls. I miss the hold down fast forward/rewind control as 'bill trig' described. My biggest gripe about these so called advanced controls and this updated Podcast App as a whole is that there are too many layers & swipes just to get to a basic control that used to be relatively easy to find in the iOS 8 version.

Sometime I find myself fumbling around this app causing a unwanted podcast to start playing.  I'm still struggling with the add to "Up Next" feature. It took me a while just to figure out where the "Up Next" list was located just so I could see it. The "Unplayed Episodes" tab and how it sorts by "today", day, & months is useless to me since I don't necessarily listen to all my 10 subscribed podcasts in this way. In some cases, some of my subscribed podcasts may go back 20 or more episodes. So I may way to listen to a current episode from one podcast and an old episode from another podcast. As stated elsewhere, they really need to put the "On-the Go" playlist back. It was simple and easy to use.

There's just nothing intuitively easy about this App compared to the way it used to be. I just want to listen to my podcast the way I used to. I have already downloaded, the free "Overcast" app that others have recommended and will give it a try in the next day or so.

After chasing my tail, I solved this problem by "Reset all settings"

    Settings

    General

    Reset

    Reset All Settings

Once I reset the iPhone, the proper back skip buttons and screen interface was back in place as it was prior to the IOS 9 installs.

You will lose wifi and bluetooth connections but the phone and interface will function properly

    Todd,

Before I try out your suggestion of a reset, I have a question of clarification (I'm getting a bit paranoid about Apple's software at this point): Does this keep iOS9, and merely do a reset of the configuration details? Or is this a rewind to a previous version of the OS?

And isn't there any partial reset possible? (I don't see such a choice within the Reset window, but I'm desperately hoping to not perform such an egregious act without any guarantee that it will actually work for me.)

But despite my misgivings expressed above, I want to say thanks for being the first person to offer what might be an actual solution to my problem.

Thanks to all who have brought this issue up and who have provided solutions.  I got the usual podcast screen only once, and no matter what icon I pushed could not duplicate it.

I have three questions for Apple:

What happened to the computer for the rest of us?

    What happened to seamless operation?

Do you remember when the mantra was "Mac users don't read manuals"?

I who have been using computers for 55 years, have been using Macs for 31 years, and even wrote programs for Macs, have spent an inordinate amount of time trying to solve user interface problems.

I think the problem is that each new generation of Apple programmers has to do things "its way".  Sometimes there are reasons for major changes, like the introduction of new hardware for OS X 10.0.  Other times, it seems like it is just to be different.

If for no other reasons, Apple should consider the lost productivity of its customers.  That was another buzzword I don't see much anymore.

The "reset all settings" does not erase any content or roll back the OS. All of your data and current OS remain intact. You will need to setup your wifi, bluetooth and other minor preference settings again but I can assure it solves the problem.

Todd, I finally got the courage up to mess with my settings and did a full reset as you suggested and my settings are now all lost, but it did not fix the problem for me. So maybe you were simply one of the lucky ones ... I'm beginning to give up that I'll ever get back the full functionality that I used to have with the podcast app, pre-iOS9.

I too have the missing rewind and advance controls on the podcast playback screen -- on my iPhone 6.

These same missing controls ARE present on my iPad 4 and my wife's iPhone 5.

Has anyone proposed a solution that actually gets the rewind/advance icons to show up reliably?

    Thanks.

Mike ... not anything helpful, but instead a question of clarification:

Did all 3 devices get upgraded to iOS9, or is only your iPhone 6 running iOS9? In other words, is this an iOS9 issue that seems to have manifested itself differently on different devices? (I haven't yet upgraded the OS in my iPad out of fear that it, too, will have more problems than it's worth.)

Thanks for the additional details ... I'm still trying to understand the problem enough to be able to potentially find a real solution for my own problem, which nobody has yet to do.

I Completely agree. And regarding podcasts specifically,  like iTunes, they are way over-engineered now. I just spent 30 min of my life trying to figure out how to rewind a podcast. I'm constantly looking things up on these help forums.

The lost buttons happened on my iPhone 5S.

One benefit of iOS 9 is to play only one podcast at a time.  Now to figure out how to do it every time.  Nothing followed the selected podcast on the way to our cabin.  But on the way back a third podcast followed the second one.  I don't want to pull over just to stop a podcast.

The only way around this at the moment is to use the sleep timer.  The sleep icon is a half-moon symbol, which like the forward/rewind buttons is also invisible but should work if you click anywhere in the centre at the very bottom of the screen.   Then a menu slides up with:

    - Off

    - In 5 Minutes

    - In 10 Minutes

    - In 15 Minutes

    - In 30 Minutes

    - In 45 Minutes

    - In One Hour

    - When Current Episode Ends

If you choose that last option it'll stop at the end of the current podcast and you'll get a countdown timer where the moon icon was supposed to be.

He posted it at 9:56 on Oct 5, but I could only see it in my email.  I've made many passes over this topic and never found it.

Thanks for your response.  I'll try to remember to preset "When Current Episode Ends".

Bill, sorry for the tardy reply.

Yes, all devices were updated to IOS9, but the advance/rewind controls only disappeared on the iPhone6.  iPod 2, iPod4, iPhone5 are all showing controls properly.

The original post went up on 9/17/15- after reading through 2 pages of responses the issue is still unresolved. Real simple where are the FAST FORWARD/REWIND capabilities in IOS 9 for Podcasts. The 15 second increment button has nothing to do with FF/R. The least Apple could do on these forums is officially acknowledge the issue. As a user I do not expect a loss of functionality from an "UP"grade.
