Same issue here. Got told my voice sounded like a chipmunk on the other side of the line. I also put my phone on speaker and could hear the caller, but they sounded like they were in slow motion.

Pointless having a phone that can't make calls.

I have this issue too!  Problem is this is my only phone and I can't call out or people can't call me...they get a fast busy.  I keep powering on and off and it doesn't help.  Did yours get fixed?  Any suggestions?  Thanks!

How do you do a soft reset?

This happened to me after updating my iPhone 6 to iOS 9 - voices garbled. I live in Oregon and use Verizon. I first tried changing my LTE settings but it didn't help. Then I did a restart (also called a soft reset and it fixed my problem. I used the following soft reset steps:

    Soft Reset

    1. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until a red slider appears.
    2. Drag the slider on the screen.
    3. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.

If this doesn't work you can try a hard reset but you may loose your settings and/or data so do a backup first. The restart/soft reset worked for me.

    Hard Reset

Press and hold both the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button for about ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

Note: The “Sleep/Wake” button is located on the right side of the iPhone 6. It is located on the top of the iPhone 5 and lower models.

The above steps should not erase any data from the device under normal conditions, but if the device is corrupted you may lose some settings or data.

This same thing happened to me when I updated my iPhone 6 to iOS 9.0.2! Everyone I called sounded slow & distorted, like a demon in a horror flick. They told me that I sounded the exact opposite, animatedly fast. I called someone in the same room & we put our phones on speaker so we could hear what we sounded like on the others phone. It was like Alvin & the Chimpmunks were chatting with Darth Vader!!! Funny party trick, but it's not funny anymore! I need my phone back!!! The distortion is worse using Bluetooth in my car. I have tried soft & hard resets. Neither worked. The only way I can talk on the phone is with earbuds that plug into my phone. HELP!

I have tried a Soft and a Hard reset, and still my calls the other person sounds far away, like they are in a box.  So frustrating!  Any other solutions??

You can try the steps in this support document. If you can't hear a person on a call or voicemail or if the sound isn't clear on your iPhone - Apple Support

Generally call issues are a carrier problem. At times, carriers can experience interference, or there can be signal problems in certain areas. In the support document one of your last steps is to contact Apple Support if necessary.
