Q: why is my charging cable when I plug it in go from Green to Orange and not charging my Mac Pro?

Hello There,

I am new to the community and desperately need possible answers to my question.

My charging cable light when I plug it in changes almost immediately from "green to orange" and is not charging my computer.

This happened to me about 8 months ago also.  I went to the "Best Buy" and purchased a new one about 8 months ago.  This is the charging cable I have been using.  I just thought the original charging cable I had damaged by accidentally by vacuuming that part of the cable. You can laugh....Anyway although the cable didn't look damaged I figured it had to be the reason why the original charging cable no longer worked.

Now once again with the new charging cable I am having the same problem except I have not vacuumed it up this time.  lol

My MacPro is now down to 25% of power left.

Can anyone please give me any ideas about what may be the problem this time?  I would greatly appreciate anyone's or everyones help or ideas.

Thank-you very much.  I look forward to hearing what you "pros" think is the problem.

In case my laptop goes down due to lack of charging I do have an iPad to receive answers.

Sincerely,

Lori

    Lori ..

There's a myriad of reasons why it's not charging. Difficult to narrow down to just one or two reasons for why it's not charging.

The light should be green only when your computer is fully charged. It should be orange when the computer is charging. What indication do you have that it is not charging? If indeed it is not charging, take it to an authorized service center for evaluation.

    Try a SMC reset:

Check the connection on the charger where it connects to the MBP.  The pins are spring loaded.  Make certain that move freely.

    Ciao.

    Thank you Mr. BobTheFisherman,

Boy I am such a newbee at the ripe old age of 56!!...You are so darn RIGHT.  I checked what another responder said and did that and nothing happened.  I then read on line about what you said about the orange light meaning the computer is charging and the green light meaning the computer is fully charged.   And....that is why I thought the computer wasn't charging.  I guess I hadn't noticed either that the power supply had become loose from it's plug.

Thank you ever so much....You wouldn't think I am an educated woman but when it comes to computers I have a "Love/Hate" relationship with them.  However I love Apple products.

    Sincerely,

    Lori
