Q: iOS9 Airdrop to Mac not working

Trying to connect iPhone 6+ iOS9 to 2013 iMac OS X 10.10.5 via Airdrop but not showing up on iMac or iPhone, worked perfectly before iOS 9.

iPhone can Airdrop to another iPhone and iMac can Airdrop to another Mac, but not iPhone to/from Mac.

iOS update was originally done OTA and have reinstalled through iTunes.

Have tried all suggestions I have come across but still they won't connect.

Anyone have similar problems?

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5), 21.5 in 2.9GHZ i5 16 GB

    Hey,

yes that's exactly how I did it... airdrop was turned on before, and then like in your picture... just that there IS no airplay device in my household, maybe it was that? Then my iphone 'searched' a little longer, and when it was doing that, my iphone popped up in the airdrop-window in finder...

sorry if it didn't work for you...

Same problem and it's not just between the Macs; even my iOS devices can't see each other most of the time.  We need a fix Apple!

Have now updated to El Capitan 10.11 on MacBook Pro and to 9.0.2. on iOS devices viz iPhone 6, 6 + and iPad 3.  Airdrop on the iOS devices works without problem to each device.  However MBP cannot see them and vice versa.  NOW I HAVE A DIFFERENT ISSUE.  Whereas before, the iPad 3, running iOS 9.0.1, could communicate with the MBP running Yosemite, now it cannot do so.  I am assuming this is more likely to be a software issue rather than a Bluetooth compatibility one.  I'm hoping that Apple Support will do the right thing and respond again after their contact with me on 29th September. Let us hope for a successful conclusion to this as it is frustrating for many of us.  It's must also be a bit of a let down for Apple I suppose especially when 3rd party software can accomplish what Airdrop cannot!

Unless Apple acknowledges the problem, there is nothing we can do. It is ridiculous that such a helpful function stops working and yet after so many pages of people complaining and affected, they have not fixed it yet. Disappointing.

I had this problem with El Capitan - my iPhone 6S Plus and MBP didn't see each other in order to establish an airdrop connection. This problem went away 10 minutes ago after, out of curiosity, I downloaded the beta build of El Capitan - 10.11.1 Beta (15B30a). Not only are they mutually visible now but airdrop happens blazingly fast. This has confirmed my suspicion that the lost functionality was due to ramped up security in the public build of El Capitan and will be addressed in the 10.11.1 update.

The failure with airdrop between iOS and OSX is intentional.  Apple is trying to address / resolve the security risk / vulnerability which comes with that communication technology.  They choose to disable airdrop between the two OS' rather than keep it open for potential hack.  All you can do now is wait for the fix.

Say what???  I don't think so.  Maybe it's just a bug and they fixed it in 10.11.1?

I did read about an Airdrop exploit that was possible under iOS 8 and supposedly fixed in iOS 9.  I hadn't read anything about Apple disabling Airdrop currently or between OS X and iOS; is this documented anywhere or just inside information?

OS X 10.11.1 will definitely rectify that. If you really need airdrop now, why not install the beta?

correct, it's working again with 10.11.1 Beta and iOS 9.x.x (verified with iOS 9.0.2 and Beta 9.1)

What version of beta are you reffering to?  Is it osx 10.11.1 beta 3 that was release last oct. 7?
