iOS 9 lightening to USB audio clicks and pops

Hello,

I use my iPhone in a Chevy Volt via lightening cable to the car's usb port. After upgrading my iPhone 6 to iOS 9, the audio consistently clicked and popped. This only happens via usb, and audio from the headphone port is fine. I confirmed this with the Music app, ibooks, iHeart Radio, and Pandora. I put the phone in airplane mode and it had no effect, meaning, the clicks and pops still existed.

I quickly downgraded my phone to iOS 8.4.1 before apple doesn't allow it anymore, and everything is back to normal. No clicks and pops.

I'm putting this out there to:

  1. see if anyone else had this issue
  2. see if anyone else came up with a solution
  3. to let apple know this needs to be fixed in their next update hopefully.

It's a shame that this glitch happened. as otherwise, my phone was great with iOS 9.

Thank you.

I Have the same issue 2012 suburban. iPhone 5s and 6 on any version of iOS 9 makes the noises. They worked great on iOS 8. Took to the Chevy dealer cause I thought the radio went bad but, no an apple issue. Did the same thing on a 2013 Tahoe they had on the lot. What's the best number to call at Apple to get this fixed?

800-My-iPhone I called a few days ago. The first call Apple gave me a checklist of things to do. The second time, my call was elevated To the engineers. Apple called me back this morning and said that the engineers are aware of this issue and are actively working on a fix. I recommend everybody with the issue call Apple to keep the pressure on!

Just got off the phone with Apple. I immediately asked to speak to a senior tech who walked through all the details with me. I'm confident he understands the root of the issue and he has submitted this information to the engineers. In case anyone else wants to add their 'vote' to this ticket by calling the same guy I spoke with, his information is:

Hopefully they are actively working on it. "Engineers are aware of the issue" is often code for "I don't have any other way to help you so I'll tell you that engineers are working on the issue so I can get you off the phone." Are the engineers aware of the issue? Probably. Are they going to fix it anytime soon? Probably not unless it impairs a significant number of users. Yeah, maybe if people consistently call then the issue will get raised but I wouldn't hold my breath for anything soon. Look at how many people have issues with wi-fi and wait for update after update to only continue having the problem. I can tell you from experience in my own line of work that "Engineers are aware of the issue and working on it" really means "Someday they may decide to look at it."

I confirm that the iOS 9.1 did´nt solve the problem.

The engineers here in Norway are working on it.. I have a good contact with them, I have helped them with all I can do..

Sent videos of me connecting the iPhone to the stereo and playing music...so they can hear the clicks & pops. I also sent them a video of my girlfriends iPhone 6 with iOS 8, working perfect like my did before upgrade.

I´m telling them about this link every time they email me.

I also sent them feedback on this link http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

Took a picture of the instruction manual from the car telling that you can use iPod 5th generation and newer, and that you always have to have the latest update from apple to make it work properly.

Keep up the good work !!

i called apple at 1800myiphone yesterday and spent 20 minutes with andrew and his supervisor informing them of this issue (they acted like they have not heard of at and maybe not. they whanted me to try a bunch of things all of which i had done already so they gave me a case number and were going to report it on there end. I may call kevin in a previous post and give him the case number to see where they are at. i think it will take a lot of calls to get something going. this affects a boatload of cars, and people just may not be aware yet.
