AFter download long iOS 9, my iMessage was turned off. When I try to turn it back on it says that it is waiting for activation. I have tried everything I could think of including resetting my networks. I have also tried it on different wifi systems. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!

We had the same issue, both iMessage and Facetime wouldn't work. Found a response from another apple user that said to "reset settings" and it worked! Go to Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will not lose data, just wallpaper, etc. Hope this helps!!
Thank you thank you So much! I had only tried resetting my network settings and never thought to reset all of my settings! This helped and as soon as my phone turned back on after resetting all settings, my imessage worked right away! THANK YOU SO MUCH AGAIN! I have been trying to figure out the solution for many days now.

I had the same issue with my sons iPhone 5s. When I tried to turn on iMessage, it said "waiting for activation". He also could not send picture messages. It turns out that his cellular data was turned off for some reason. I don't know why. Go to Settings>Cellular Data and turn on cellular data and LTE.
I reset all my settings and after I turned on the iMessage for a while it said it was activating, but was allowing me to send iMessages. Now its on but under, it says "activation unsuccessful" "turn on iMessage to try again" (even though its on/green/) and it's allowing me to still send the iMessages. weird!! Either way, I'm happy my iMessage is back on! Thanks!
