There is a difference between being disconnected and unpaired. If your watch face shows a red phone symbol with a line through it, this means that your Apple Watch is disconnected from your iPhone.

You do not need to re-pair your Apple Watch - just reconnect. Check that Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are both enabled on your iPhone and that your iPhone and Apple Watch are close by each other. Check also that you haven't enabled Airplane Mode on your watch. They should reconnect automatically when brought back within range of each other. If they don't, keep them close together and try one or more of:

  • Disable and then re-enable Bluetooth on your iPhone: (Settings > Bluetooth)
  • Enable and disable Airplane Mode on your Apple Watch: Swipe up on the watch face > Swipe sideways to the Settings Glance > Tap the airplane icon to enable Airplane Mode (this turns off Bluetooth & Wi-Fi) > Wait for a short while > Tap the icon again to disable Airplane Mode (re-enables Bluetooth and Wi-Fi) > Connected should appear at the top of the screen.
  • Restart both devices.

If the devices are already unpaired and you want to pair them manually (instead of using the camera), then:

- Wear Apple Watch on your wrist and choose a language.

- Separately on each device, tap on Start Pairing (on your iPhone, do this within the Apple Watch app).

- Tap Pair Apple Watch Manually on your iPhone.

- Tap the info icon "i" on your Apple Watch (it will be shown now). Your device's name should be displayed on the watch face.

- On your iPhone, tap the device name matching that shown on your Apple Watch face.

- A six-digit code will be displayed on your Apple Watch. Enter that code on your iPhone to pair the two devices.

- Then follow the steps as prompted to Set Up.

Understood - thank you for clarifying. In that case:

On your Apple Watch: tap on Settings > General > Reset > Erase all Content and Settings.

This will reset your Apple Watch to the factory settings. You can then pair with your iPhone by following the normal pairing procedure. Choose to restore your watch from backup when offered the option by the app.
