I have this problem too. For me its turning out to be anything I try to use that is USB based. MIDI interface, Mic to USB device, and USB MIDI controllers. All of this use to work when using earlier version of IOS8 with a powered USB 2.0 hub and a USB to lightning adaptor. For me This was broken in the last version of IOS8 as well. I was hoping IOS9 might fix things.

I've already verified that my USB cables, USB to lightning adaptor, USB 2.0 hub, and USB devices are all working fine. Without these devices makes my iPad mini pretty much useless for my needs.

Also had a chat with Apple Support asking for help. The tip they gave me was to restore the iPad and set it as new. But I have done this several times already with no success. They tried to get out saying that it"s a hardware issue - cmon! Just after updateing iOS9,1?

BTW. Have seen various discussions on this topic since iOS8.0! So the only iOS compatible with Midi seems to be iOS7 ... If only there was an option to downgrade...

HI everyone,

is there any possibility to connect my iPad mini 2 (ios9) to my midi USB keyboard at the same time recharge it?

The only adapter that i know is the Irig midi (first edition) but the fact is that the plug is the old 30pins and not lightning. Has Someone tried to connect an adapter (from 30pins to lightning) to that device and checked if it works with midi stuffs ? i've chose ipad especially for this use and it would be a very annoying to know that is useless for my purposes.

thanks to everybody

i use the Apple 30 pin to Lightning cable with an iRig MIDI v1 and it works fine with my iPad Mini 2 running iOS9.1. You need to use a very short USB cable from the power adapter to the iRig otherwise it won't charge.

Strangely, since upgrading my iPad Air to 9.1, the iRig no longer works with that...I get the message that "The accessory is not supported by this device"!

I have an ipad4 air with the exact same problem. I was duped into buying the apple lightning to usb camera adapter; which now works with nothing.

Of course, we are all locked into using IOS 9 now, as there is no way to downgrade to an IOS that actually worked.

Apple did this very same bait and switch with the 30pin connector and it's Apple Camera (non) connector kit, when three people complained that their IPAD battery wasn't long anymore. So, fuque everyone for a few idiots.

Now, yet again, Apple has done the bait and switch trick by narrowing the specs of the USB standard that their devices will accept in order to squeeze out nearly everyone who has spent money on adapters that are meant to make the I-devices nothing more than toys, connectable to only what Apple deems acceptable to them... and their partner app developers:

I bought the iM1 from Korg (fortunately on sale) because it was a fabulous replacement for the original keyboard; which I used to own. However, now it's merely an elaborate toy of nostalgia because there are no keyboards that will work with an IPAD with 'lightning' connector and IOS9. Prior to IOS8, such connectivity through the camera adapter seemed trivial.

I expect that this time around it's the high end music app makers that don't want the connectivity. I bought my M1 for $3000 when it was new. Now I can get the app for $20 bucks. That it can't be connected to a keyboard and made actually usable, seems, perhaps, to be a mandate by those like Korg.

it literally needs to be half the length — my Logitech keyboard charge cable works, it is about 30cm long, mini usb. I couldn't find the original cable just now (did it come with one?) charging seems to work on both ipad1 ios 5.1.1 via 30pin and iPad air 9.3.3 and iPad air 10.1.1 via lightning adapter to irig midi using the 12W usb power adapter. ymmv as I only tried quick few minutes charge on each to confirm percentages going up. hth
