Transferring content from iPad 3 (OS9.1) to new iPad Air 2(OS 9.0)

How dod I go about transferring the contents from iPad 3 (OS 9.1) to new iPad Air 2(OS 9.0)? iPad 3 is backed up in iTunes but new iPad Air 2 cannot read the back up. Should I restore the iPad 3 to factory settings?

You need to do one of the following:

1. Update the iPad Air 2 to iOS 9.1.

2. Click here, return the iPad 3 to iOS 9.0, and make another backup.

3. Use the iPhone Backup Extractor, and manually put the backup's contents on the iPad Air 2.
