NO SOUND WHEN PLAYING DVD

When trying to play a dvd on i mac 27' [new 2015] video plays but no sound......[mute is off]...

sounds works fine with everything else?

should i try another "media player"?

For DVD Player there is a volume slider on the floating controller

plus there are volume controls on the menu bar.
