iOS 9

My ipod is frozen on the slide to upgrade screen after downloading iOS 9. I've tried following apple's instructions by connecting to iTunes and restoring but it wont pick up my ipod. Ive also rebooted but it keeps bringing me back to the same screen. I'm unable to chat with a professional as i need the serial number which is only accessible from the settings on my ipod i believe. What do i do now as apple's instructions wont work, and i cant contact apple because i need the serial number.
