how can i remove find my iphone when i cant get on my iphone

i am updating my iphone and it wont go past the 'slide to upgrade' screen. I cannot do it through my iTunes as find my iphone is on and it wont let me remove it. please does anyone know how to help or get past the slide to update screen??
