Q: Has anybody manage to do a backup as described in this support information?

I have the the problem referred to in article HT205239. An iPad 2, that was on iOS7 to be updated to iOS9. I am stuck on the Slide to Upgrade screen. I also do not have a backup of the device. In the article, Apple says if you don't have a backup, back up the device an restore. I have however not being able to make a backup. iTunes gets stuck on backing up <devicename>. I managed to back up pictures seperately and transfer all purchases from the iPad to iTunes.

 

Has anybody managed to create a backup at this stage?

    I have exactly the same with my iPhone.

     

    I tried using iSkysoft to back up instead of iTunes, which also didn't work.  However, I did notice that it would load items to be selected for back up after I reset my phone until it got to the 'hello' screen, then everything left just said loading.  I tried just leaving it after resetting, going on to the swipe to update loop etc. but nothing has worked.  So I'm thinking the contents of the phone cannot actually be accessed to do the back up.....?  At least I won't sit and staring at iTunes for hours on end hoping it eventually will say it's backed up!
