Perhaps its not the best solution but a last resort not to loose your data. Just make sure to use good software from a reliable source and backup your backup. Perhaps this article will help you :

Sadly, i do not have an ipad nor an ipod, so i cant try the first link out.
As for the other two links, i've read and tried the steps and they dont work for me.
Yea, i'm considering using a third party extractor but only if i really need to (they are expensive) or if apple says there's no fix to this issue, hopefully not.
Currently im making do with dropbox importing pictures from my phone (luckily as im most worried about losing them), somehow it is still doing it. Not sure if i can import videos/recordings too.

I'm sorry to hear that the issue remains, in worst case scenerio your back up migth be broken. Best scenario: you just haveto try again/another computer or wait for another ios update.
