How to set Google Maps as default map application in iOS 9

I have just upgraded to iOS 9 and it seems Apple has removed the ability to switch from Apple Maps to a third party map app as the default app when clicking address links from iCalendar, etc.

Is there a way to set a third party app as the default app to launch when clicking address links from other apps? Please help.

So, while i could not figure out way to make google maps as global default. However i found a easy enough feature.

I usually had this problem when someone sends me address is msg or email. The address appear as links, When i double click on the link iOS asks me which mapping app i want to use - choices are apple's maps, google maps and waze. I choose google maps and from that point it works fine for me.

Thank you for providing a usable workaround that allows me to use Google Maps via Siri. While it would be nice if Apple would let me just choose my preferred service provider and then seek to secure my maps app choice by providing a superior application in the same way that they secured my device business, Apple has obviously decided not to go down that path. Not only do I trust Google Maps more than Apple Maps, I actually prefer it's interface, especially the simple feature of allowing me to pinch zoom out and see my entire rout at any point. Since I generally prefer Apple products but often prefer Google data services your workaround is very helpful, thanks for sharing.

such a SHAME for APPLE to have such a poor map app and force people to use it from calendar. In major cities like london there are still instances where map inside calendar will give you a wrong location for an address. for example if you type King street, it will force you to go to EC, when it is SW1, a major difference.

So tell someone who a) may care about your opinion and b) can do something about it:

Thanks for the feedback link.

There are steps available to "switch" within Apple Maps.

The challenge is it rarely if ever, fully completes the task.

The last time I tried this feature Google Maps opened and the little spinning "circle" went on indefinitely.

I submitted feedback for Enhancement Request requesting the addition of Google Maps as a default mapping application.

If enough people do the same, maybe it will be added...

I've used Apple Maps and Google on separate devices in the same car, along with the Navigation in my car to go to several places as a test, and I've not seen Apple miss yet. I've seen issues with both the car and Google. I believe a lot of it has to do with the accuracy of the GIS data provided. In some areas Google does its own, and may be updated when they do their Street view drives. None of them are exact 100% of the time though.
