Aperture to Photos - HELP!!!

Hello everyone!

Apple finally got with the program and reduced its iCloud pricing, matching Dropbox and most of the competition. I now would like to have access to all my pictures on my mobile devices (through iCloud) so I have to switch my library to Photos. I am currently using Aperture, which I love, but when I try to import my library into Photos, it is grayed out. See below.

Plus, unless I am wrong, I thought the iPhoto or Aperture library was supposed to look like this:

User uploaded file

Not like this:

When I click on the folder, the terminal window opens...

I tried repairing permissions and the database, as well as rebuilding the database but in vain.

I know there is something wrong but I can't figure it out. Thank you in advance for any help provided!

Cheers!

To migrate your iPhoto Library or Aperture Library to Photos, you cannot import the library, you open the library in Photos.

Photos cannot import and merge libraries, it can only switch between libraries.

So try to drag your iPhoto/Aperture library onto the Photos icon in the Dock. Then Photos should convert the library to Photos format and open it.

It is puzzling, that your library des not have the correct icon. Try to add the filename extension ".photolibrary" to the film of the library package, if it is an iPhoto Library amor the filename extension ".aplibrary", if it is an Aperture library.

Leonie,

My library just finished uploading into Photos. Everything looks good except I am 1,600 pictures short in the Photos app... Is there a way to fix this without having to go through almost 70,000 pictures to figure out which ones are missing?

Every time I look for help on this forum, you seem to be the one solving everyone's problem! 🙂 Thanks for all the help!

You're welcome 🙂

What kinds of photos do you have in your iPhoto Library? And how did you check the numbers?

If you are having RAW&JPEG pairs, they will be counted diffrently in Photos from iPhoto. iPhoto is showing them separately, but Photos is stacking them and counting them as one photo.

Also, the "All Photos" album and the Photos view with the Moments may be showing different numbers, if some photos are hidden. reveal the "Hidden Photos" album from the View menu, to see, if you are having hidden photos.

If items remain missing, make a backup if the library and repair it. See this Help page: https://help.apple.com/photos/mac/1.0/?lang=en#/pht6be18f93
