Apple ID password

I just restored my iPod touch 5th generation because I forgot my password. But now it's saying that my apple ID is wrong and that my iPod can't be activated with this apple ID. Also, is the apple ID that you use for icloud and iTunes the same as the one that you use for you iPod?

iPod touch, iOS 8.4

After the 'conversion' of Apple IDs created with AOL usernames (completed by now?), isn't it true that all Apple IDs are (now) in fact email addresses?
