Sep 24, 2015 10:59 AM in response to fkirshby -Chandler-,My problem was the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver. The Driver was not installed.
This was the solution:
Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
- Right-click the Apple iPhone, Apple iPad, or Apple iPod entry in Device Manager (portable device) and choose Update Driver from the shortcut menu.
- Click "Browse my computer for driver software".
- Click "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer".
- Click the Have Disk button. (If the Have Disk option is not present, choose a device category such as Mobile Phone or Storage Device if listed, and click next. The Have Disk button should then appear.)
- In the "Install from Disk" dialog, click the Browse button.
- Use this window to navigate to the following folder:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers. - Double-click the "usbaapl" file. (This file will be called "usbaapl64" if you have a 64-bit version of Windows. If you don't see "usbaapl64" here, or if there is no Drivers folder, look in C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers. instead).
- Click OK in the "Install from Disk" dialog.
- Click Next and finish the driver-installation steps. Open iTunes to verify that the device is recognized properly.

I went to this link,
http://www.technipages.com/itunes-fix-iphone-or-ipod-not-detected-in-windows
followed the directions and iTunes recognized my phone. Its a much easier process than the fix on the Apple support page. Too bad Apple support is not aware of this fix.
OMG thank you for that link, the problem is now solved, I thought I would go mad trying to fix this issue.

Sep 25, 2015 1:15 AM in response to PHDKby wilko from amsterdam,Facing exactly the same problem. Spoke to 4 guys of Apple Support and even the last one refused to help because I am using Windows 10. I tried to convince him something is wrong with iTunes but no, that was definately not the case. It is very annoying and my patience is running to down quickly.
Apple customer friendly??? No way!!!

Sep 26, 2015 5:24 AM in response to PHDKby lparry92,FIXED FOR ME.
I am running Win 10 and Itunes 12.3.0.44 and Apple Mobile Device Manage was not appearing in USB Controllers
Sorry very vague but did work.
Connect Iphone via USB .
Open Device Manger, and open one of the tabs (possible software devices, definately not USB controllers) and Apple Iphone (presume ipod would also be there) will be there. Right click on the Apple Iphone and update. Should then work.
I have spent hours trying to resolve this is stopping and running Apple Mobile Device Manager, Updating my Iphone etc and it was this 5 min job.
Hope it helps and again sorry for the vagueness, but weither way it should be a 3-6 min job

Sep 26, 2015 5:01 PM in response to lparry92by PHDK,THANKS THANKS THANKS
Your suggestion helped and it works. I found the Apple iPhone under "Portable units" in the Device Manager, right clicked on it and chose "Update Driver Software" and after the update, iPhone also appears under USB Controllers and can be recognized by iTunes again.
